Well, we will live with them and wish perhaps they never were :)

But IT does help to talk about them perhaps as individuals, to 'get them out' and purge them so that we can rid ourselves of them.

Usually it is because we feel bad about them, which is funny really - we can do a million good things but the bad things are the ones that haunt us like ghosts (and there is poem in that somewhere).

Maybe it is because we expect ourselves to be only good, which in the end is really silly.

I spend a lot of time kicking my ass for what I have done wrong in life, to no avail. And the really funny thing is that maybe them catholics were right about 'confession' - it IS good for the soul.

In 42 years on this earth I have realized that I have spent a lot of time hurting over what I did wrong, instead of celebrating what I did right - which is way more than what I did wrong.

Guilt is a fucked up thing. It is akin to the chains that the ghost of Marley carried in the Dickens' novel about Scrooge.

In the end, I think it is an easy thing to forgive other's their trespasses than it is to forgive ourselves.

The lesson I learned more than any other from Christianity is that you need to forgive yourself, because God already has and does not want you to carry those weights around as they contribute nothing to the future.

Someday I will forgive myself for what I see as I did wrong (not to say it was not wrong, but keeping it with me is more wrong I suppose).

I guess it is harder to forgive one's self than it is others.

funny how that works.

Now I just need to cry and try to forgive myself. which is messed up because I can forgive most anything someone has done to me but I cannot myself....

I wish I had my own back sometimes my friend :)

would that I could practice that which I preach.

I am hard on myself way too much, and I just cannot stop. But I cannot go down that road right now.

I was once a confident and sure man. I am but a shell of that now.

Maybe someday....

Most my friends are dead now, and the only ones I have left are here on DU. Pretty sad really when the only people you have left to talk to you have never met and probably never will :)

Sorry for the rant. Yet another funeral this weekend and another milestone passed. And she was only 45.
