I just post them. I still write poetry but not lyrics. Used to write lyrics for a heavy metal band but they fired me cuz it was all really really bad Stevie Knicks.

Well, not really. For instance, I don't know where you're from or how long you've been here. You have no obligation to make that known, but I bet I'm not the only one who's curious about those little bits of information.

I always read your posts because they're always interesting.

I don't know the date I registered here, but I know I've been a constant lurker since the beginning. I have a subconscious list of posters that are required reading for me. If I had to give names I'd forget half, but I immediately recognize their names when browsing DU. Yours is, of course, one of those names now, but I don't have any recollection of being aware of it for any long time. It seems like a recent addition to my "must read" list. Is my subconscious memory failing or have you just recently (this year) started posting here.

I wonder where you live. An easy guess would be within some largish metropolitan area if not the city itself. Rural Kansas seems an unlikely habitat for a gay sadomasochistic psych/writer/cripple/geek. However, my vague impression of you tells me that if you're not in the likely place, then you'll probably be found in the unlikely place. I get the feeling that, except for some sort of sexual extravaganza, there is not a lot "in between" with you.

A couple days ago I saw California Peggy gave you a resounding thumbs-up review. That was a nice thing to do and not unexpected that she would do something like that. It's all too easy to find people insulting one another here daily, so it's refreshing to see someone being complimented. I like to do that when it seems appropriate and occasionally I'll blindside someone by coming out of the blue and saying that I appreciate them and what they have to say. There's a good many here that I'd like to say, "I don't know you personally but, if I did, I'd like you. We might not be best friends, but I'm sure we'd be friends".

My own social insecurities prevent me from saying that nearly as often as I'd like. Too many people, including myself, are just too reserved. It's a shame because, in our hearts, we know better. What person doesn't like to hear compliments? The problem, I think, is the fear of mis-perception, and that fear has some basis in reality. Without some foundational friendship beforehand, a compliment can easily, and too often correctly, be perceived as some sort of sexual advance. Especially on line where we can't see faces or hear inflection and tone.

Anyway, you seem like a very likable person and I'm glad you're here on DU. So, how 'bout it? How long you been here and where are you from? At least give us a time zone or a geographical clue.
I'm just being casually curious here, but it just occurred to me that you might have some very good reason for keeping that info unknown and, of course, I'd respect that and hope you'd forgive the prying.

How long have I been here? Don't know the exact date, but years. I had to stop for a while for various reasons. So alot of people don't know me or remember me.

Where am I from? Hard to say. I was born in Texas, but grew up in England, Norway and California. Got my BAs in Alaska. Moved to San Francisco for my MA and PhD - but my wives and co-husbands and daughter were in Santa Cruz, so I commuted alot. I took time off from graduate school to live in the middle east and travel. Now I live in Katy, just outside of Houston. So I guess I'm from the world. Odd life, but often fun and certainly interesting.

Nice guy? I like to think so. It's why I became a psych - to help people. I had to retire because other people's pain got to me too much. And why I did so much volunteer work, though the MS has pretty much put a stop to that.

CAPeggy and me? We've become very good friends. We have little in common, except both being poets and dedicating our lives to helping others (retired nurse, retired psych), but I love her and know she loves me.
