34. They got heavily fined a few years ago...
Edited on Tue May-27-08 06:05 PM by Kutjara
...not only for making false claims, but also for having higher than allowed levels of lead in their pills.

After a while in the wilderness, they're back on TV with the "certain part of the male anatomy" ads. Nowhere do they actually say the product makes the penis bigger, so if they're hauled into court again, they can just claim the pills have (for example) 50 calories in them, and therefore can make people bigger, just like any foodstuff can.

Also, the "doctor" who vouches for them, based on his "personal research," claims he's never endorsed a product before. Turns out that's a lie, and he's been endorsing fraudulent dick pills since the early 80s.

I don't know if they're still filling the pills with lead or not, but I guess the people who buy this sort of crap have little to fear from brain damage.

6. good point there. but the answer is: because it will sell like hotcakes
another good one:

I have worked for several insurance companies, processing medical claims. My last place had several policies that covered the "enhancers" on the RX plan...

BUT

DIDN'T COVER ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES FOR THE WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(and God forbid they should cover abortions)

11. actually, I think it is because MEN decided what the insurance policy would
cover...these were group policies for professional organizations and not bad coverage all in all

but it was obvious the people who had the power to decide what was payable and what was not were definitely thinking with another part of the anatomy besides the brain.

so to speak

14. Wow!
It's illegal here for a insurance plan to cover ED meds and not contraceptive meds. I assumed it was that way everywhere. Also, with some exceptions, they have to cover abortions.

I feel luckier today to live in a very-blue state (CT) than I have in a while. (I don't like rural New England particularly...I'm a city-guy...I miss DC and NYC.)

23. state regulations can manipulate many things depending on the type
of plan and number of persons it covers and the state the plan is based in.

If the plan is based in CT, NY, NH, MA CA and others which escape me momentarily, the plan will be more liberal and generous than other states.

17. Yep keep us women barefoot & pregnant by men too stupid to realize that these 'enhancers' don't work
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzyte

Federal indictment and conviction
On September 21, 2006, Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals, its owner and president, Steven Warshak, and five other individuals were indicted by the United States, Southern District of Ohio, U.S. Attorney Greg Lockhart, on charges of conspiracy, money laundering, and mail, wire and bank fraud. The indictment alleged that the company defrauded consumers and banks of US$100 million.<3> The United States Food and Drug Administration, Internal Revenue Service, postal inspectors and other agencies participated in the investigation.<3> The federal fraud trial began on January 8, 2008.<4>

In testimony during the trial, a former executive with Berkeley testified that the enhancements that the company claimed were given by use of Enzyte were fabricated, and the company defrauded customers by continuing to charge them for additional shipments of the supplement. He further testified that company employees were instructed to make it as difficult as possible for unhappy customers to receive refunds.<5>

On February 22, 2008, Steven Warshak was found guilty of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, bank fraud and money laundering, and could face more than twenty years in federal prison.<6>

Just a few people whose scruples fell out of their pockets and got lost between the couch cushions tryin' to make a buck off of gullible, insecure people.

18. That's a bit more complex than you think....
the vast majority of prescription-pharmaceuticals do not make significant $ for their manufacturers. (a few actually lose money and are to some extent subsidized to remain in production for the public welfare...these tend to be things like anti-malarial drugs.)

What makes these pills available and what provides the funds to perform research into new pharmaceuticals are those pills which are popular but possibly-unnecessary like Viagra which can be sold in large quantities for a large markup. (I'm somewhat opposed to them being covered by insurance, but if they were not, other things that I prefer to have covered such as contraceptives probably would not be covered either.)

Now I have as much of a problem with the drug companies as the next person...I think certain drugs should be sold for a loss in all circumstances in order to check pandemics and public-health crises, I have a problem with the kiting of patents (altering something in a very-minor way to gain a new patent in order to keep it out of the hands of generic manufacturers) and that markups in cost should not be based on location of sale.

I do realize the economics of the field though...as much as I dislike them. The thing I really want to see changed/eliminated is pharmaceutical reps and their massive budgets/expense accounts. They are a huge expense which ultimately drives-up the cost of healthcare massively to nobody's benefit but the shareholders of stock in the pharma. manufacturers.

15. ... you do realize that we have thousands of troops dying overseas
because we've got a few too many people in charge trying to compensate for the fact that their wangs aren't as big as they'd like, right?

Too many men are insecure pricks (pun intended). If they weren't, these companies wouldn't have a customer base.

Too many men don't realize that their own masculinity/self worth and their penis size/virility aren't one and the same.

Heck, if those two things correlated, I'd be butch as hell. :P

By coyly saying "that certain part of the male anatomy," they'll be able to claim in court that they never claimed to be able make anyone's penis bigger.

Somehow, these lying greedy fuckers who make this shit and the commercials are putting out that impression.
