Kick if Ronald Reagan/Bill Clinton were charismatic Leaders |
|
Edited on Tue May-27-08 08:33 AM by nvme
How many times while he was quadrupling our national debt, would he speak in his grandfatherly way, and make you feel ok rather than outraged? When he was selling arms to our enemies(Iran) to fight the commie bastards it was was a good thing right? When he had Greenspan start filling social security up with IOU and doubling the social security tax that was a smart mover right? When he start with the star wars initiatives he was helping us and not the military industrial complex right? When he was using the southern strategy and announcing his candidacy where someone had previously lynched, it was for the benefit of civil rights?
So the same standard should be held to Bill Clinton. When he told the LGBT community he supports their struggle by enacting "Don't ask.."poicy it was to their benefit. When he gave china the most favored nation status after Tienanmen Square it was because he believe in china's ability to support human rights. NAFTA didn't open the door for the exodus of jobs. Outsourcing didn't become a means for greater profit margins. He fought for Health-care.
charisma does not equate to greatness.

I'll go one better and say greatness is not desireable in a democracy. I want someone who will end the war, restore the value of the dollar and straighten out this health care fiasco. After that, I want that president to leave office and be forgotten about. Greatness is for kings, not presidents.

2. Not sure this is really a lounge topic |
|
Still I would say both Reagan and Clinton had charisma in their Presidential tool boxes. Good tool to have, when you consider how little real power the President is given, by the Constitution.

That's what I think.
Oh, accidental (or incidental) kick, I suppose.
