My tentative Fall 2008 class schedule, and a dilemma.
The class titles are:

English 242 - American Literature 2
English 313 - Creative Writing Workshop: Poetry
Geology 110 - Environmental Geoscience (a GEC class)
Political Science 220 - State and Local Government
Religious Studies 102: Introduction to World Religions (a GEC elective class)

According my RateMyProfessors.com, my American Lit 2 professor is one of the easiest/most interesting, so that class should be an easy A. The Geology and Religious Studies courses are General Ed classes...filling in part of my science and "world culture" requirements. Blah. The Poli-Sci course is going to be fantastic. ThinkBlue1966 took it with this professor last year, and I attended a couple of her classes. He's really awesome--the stereotypical Liberal Hippie Professor, lol.

I've heard from others that my poetry workshop professor is VERY hard to please and a bit biased toward the kind of poetry that she prefers to write. I have no idea if this is true or not, to be fair--but it does make me nervous, because I looked up some of her stuff, and it's really abstract, which isn't my "thing". I'm wondering if I should put that class off for a semester and see if the other Really Good professor teaches it next spring, so I can take it then. I'd e-mail her and ask myself, but I'm pretty sure she'd find it insulting--"Hello Professor *****, can I ask if you're going to be biased against my writing?" I'm not sure that there's any "nice" way to ask a professor something like that. Eeep! My only other concern is that it's a late afternoon class, but a certain wonderful DU'er who's a fellow student at WVU has offered to give me a ride home those evenings, since she also has a 4:00--6:50 pm class on Wednesdays.

So--any advice? Should I drop that poetry workshop now and wait for my "preferred" professor, or should I be more concerned with making sure that I'm taking a poetry writing class *period*?

1. Take the poetry writing class period. Preferred prof may not teach that course
again for a very long time and you may (probably will) learn something from a teacher who is so different from you.
