...might be hard to get hold of now, but it's utterly enchanting...and totally unlike anything else...

Lost Souls -Brite. Vampires, drugs, incest, blood, rape, homosexuality, the love two straight guys can have for each other, runs the whole gamut. Camilla - LeFanu. The original lesbian vampire story. Dracula - Stoker. A Victorian guy's wet dream. Jack- Willis. It's never clear if Jack really is a vampire or not but it always makes me cry. Midnight Blue - Collins. A collection of all the Sonya Blue novels. She's both human and vampire at the same time.
Hope that helps.

Loved "Drawing Blood" and the short story "The Elder" was beyond brilliant.

19. It's surely the most emotional of her novels |
|
When his father kills himself and the rest of the family except the main character and he wonders why his dad didn't kill him too. Didn't his dad love him enough? It just breaks your heart.
As for Wormwood, the original title is Swamp Fetus. In Europe, where I got my copy they use it. In the US they changed the title. Why?

4. Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles" |
|
I thought the first three books were great and felt that's where she should have ended them. Wasn't very impressed with "The Tale of the Body Thief" and never went past that one in the series.
Others may disagree but that's my recommendation

11. I thought she lost it after Interview |
|
The next two were OK, but she made the mistake a lot of writers make and fell in love with her villain. And she shouldn't have killed Claudia, who in many ways was the most interesting character. After Body Thief I mostly quit reading them. The few I've tried have been drivel.

5. "Sand" (from the TV series "Blake's 7", 1981) |
|
Maybe "State of Decay" (from the TV series "Doctor Who", 1980) but "Sand" is rather better - far more original too...

7. Bram Stoker's Dracula... |
|
Edited on Tue May-27-08 05:14 PM by Fox Mulder
Anne Rice's Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, and Memnoch the Devil. Also, any of Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files would be great. The protagonist is a wizard who deals with vampires, as well as fairies and demons.

Anyway, thanks very much, everyone. I shall investigate on the titles you've given mention to.

There are people who identify as vampires - both blood drinking kind and the psychic kind. My lover asked why the temp drops nearly 20 degrees when I walk into the room, I told him a boy has to eat.
As both, I can attest vampires can be real. We just don't get that immortality thang, damn it.

It's about a lot more than vampires, but they use the conventions of this genre to great effect.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel. I have both complete sets of DVDs.
