ARRRGH! I turned 50 today!
And last week I got info in the mail on joining AARP! Is it any wonder I'm tempted to go out and get some Ghirardelli chocolate right now?

1. My sympathies!
Next September for me. I should've accomplished something by now, but no. Nada. You've probably got progeny or something. You should feel good about what you've done in 50 years.

Ah, screw it. Wanna share some chocolate?

I mean, I feel so young & stupid still. How can I be 44 already?

Consolation prize: I can eat Activia and take massive shits, just like Jamie Lee Curtis!

10. In all seriousness . . .
I'm actually quite lucky to be coming here and kidding around about turning the big 5-0. I had a heart attack in January. I'm fit, don't smoke, and am not overweight, so heart disease just kind of sneaked up on me. So I really do need to count my blessings.

that milestone in March.

I'm celebrating until the end of the year, too. All the chocolate and whatever I want.

You should do the same.

21. They just do.
I haven't turned 50 yet -- that's still months off -- but AARP has been keeping the hits coming.

Anyway, please, please, please do something utterly wonderful for yourself, just whatever makes you happy (If that's chocolate, I'm all for it). In fact, if you want to celebrate all month, or all year, I say go for it.

And I hear you on the heart disease. I had one of those events myself, without warning.

And may I say midlife rocks? Really. Even if the body is doing its thing and putting up protests, the mind is wonderful, as you've got the experience and the perspective and the depth to use it. Go for it, and have a wonderful birthday.

34. I got stuff from them
when I was only 45. Everyone seems to sell our info these days so it's no wonder all this crap comes in the mail. Since DOB is part of protected health information, if we could track down who's selling it, I would think we would have a case to put a stop to it.

Anyway, my sympathies. I'll be right behind you this summer. Sigh.

I hope you do something to celebrate and enjoy it anyhow. Might as well! :hi:

23. Happy Birthday Brigid!
I turned 50 six years ago. Thankfully, it was on the weekend. Had it been a work day, I would have had to call in sick. I was so depressed that I spent my weekend in bed in fetal position. It was hell. Also, I started getting AARP stuff when I was 49. I was outraged! I looked online to find someplace to inform them not to send anything else, because I had died. There wasn't any way to send that information, so I kept tossing it with rage.

It was the first milestone birthday that freaked me out....
You'll be fine....I am! I went through menopause without killing anyone!

Here you go sweetie

:loveya:

peace~

29. Happy Birthday!
I feel your pain. On my 50th I was getting ready to go to China to adopt our munchkin. One of the attorneys at my office called me into her office and said that she had heard I was 51 and getting ready to adopt. I laughed, and told her absolutely I was not 51,waited a second and then finished with, I just turned 50. She didn't say much more after that. I'm looked at 55 in August and have a soon-to-be 6 year old daughter. Life's good.

37. One alternative to this would have been to die at 40.
In fact, in general, the alternative to growing old is dying young.

Fifty is a magnificient age.

Quoth Igmar Bergman: "Growing old is like climbing a mountain. Your breath gets shorter but your views grow more expansive."

Congratulations on making it this far.
