Yikes , I can't stand the shitty quality of MP3's |
|
Why do people waste good money on ipods and such , just to listen to low fidelity music. Never got that.
It's bad enough that we can't afford in both time and money to attend concerts , and when it comes to Classical music and Opera , not a lot is offered. We have to live with CD's , which are not bad, but require thousands of dollars of equipment to get the most out of them (when I retire , maybe I'll have that much money to spare).
But to even go much much lower , and delve into that tinny , horrible MP3 soundscape , and buy hundreds of songs in that format , at a price not much lower that getting the CD.
Horrible ...

2. 256kb/s or higher MP3s are pretty good. |

I don't like anything lower if at all possible.
Of course, all those ipod stats come from 128k quality, which is shite...

3. I used Wav files on my portable player (it's a Samsung) |
|
I buy CD's then run them through Sound Forge and convert the tunes into Wavs. Quality is much higher than Mp3 but SOAKS up the space.. 5 min is about 50 meg

4. I convert all my CDs to apple lossless for my iPod. |
|
I only use my iPod for a music storage system for my car. (Eclipse CD7000 receiver with the IPC-106 iPod interface.) Plug the iPod in, and the head unit charges the iPod, while controlling all it's functions from the dash unit. Output is line out straight to the preamp section. Sounds identical to the original CDs, but without all the hassle. Have 120 CDs in lossless at the moment, and it takes all of 35 gigs of space on the iPod. (Roughly 50% compression overall.)
They do have their uses, but mp3s as a general rule suck for sound quality. Lossless, FLAC files or (space permitting) .WAV is the way to go.
