Seriously - what the fuck is up with that assinine affectation?

Men with handkerchiefs (or "headwraps") on their head, trying to look cool and hip and oh-so-alternatively-wondrous and gee-wow-shiznits.

Fucking Christ. Do they now know that they look like the dumbest of the dumb, superceded only by gum chewers and shitbrains with their jackets wrapped around their waist tied by the sleeves?

Should take a board to the fucker, and knock some sense into him.

He's also wearing multiple shirts.

Jackass.

2. I blame Michael Stipe.
Although, I haven't seen too many imitators of the haphazardly-shave-your-head-and-rub-black-shoe-polish-around-your-eyes look of his. That'd at least be more entertaining.

13. Stipe doesn't affect anything. He's fucking nuts.
And I say that as someone who blew most of my mid 1980s college fund on REM albums, posters, and t-shirts!

Not the racist ignorant NASCAR hankie head affectation.

or were they teeshirts? Popped collars enrage me, especially when it's a double layer.

16. It was a flannel shirt on the outside, some other collared shirt, and a t-shirt.
Plus he wore his jacket.

Wearing more than one collar at a time is the sign of an ultra-jackass, as is wearing a popped collar (especially if it's two popped collars).

14. You remember the "John Lennon on holiday from Yoko in L.A." story, right?
...his heavy drinking days, separated from Yoko, sleeping with May Pang (personally hand-selected by Yoko), slumming around L.A. with Harry Nilsson...went into (I believe) The Troubador, went into the ladies' room, bought a Tampon, came out with it on his head...

Sat around with Harry and generally got drunker and made an ass of himself until the waitress came over and told him to knock it off and he said "Do you know who I am?" and she said...drum roll, please...

"Yeah. You're some asshole with a Tampon on his head."

One of my FAVORITE Sir Winston O'Boogie tales. BELOW: John & May.

18. Well, when I wear one..
Edited on Tue May-27-08 11:54 PM by AchtungToddler
which I haven't in a year or so (out of the habit, and not working outdoors as much), it's partly for fashion (such that it is), and mostly practical.

I'm bald, so I don't really have any variety of hair styles/cuts to wear; it's a hat or a do-rag or my bald head. A little variety is nice sometimes. Generally speaking, I've always thought I looked stupid in most every hat I've ever worn (although for some reason, that is changing for the better as I get older), while my face looks about right with either a shorn head or a do-rag.

I first wore one (a do-rag), many years ago, out of solidarity with a friend who was going thru chemo for breast cancer, and later I first shaved my already too balding head in solidarity with another friend going thru breast cancer.

The practical aspect of it is that I have no protection from the sun w/o hair, and having had one carcinoma, it's not really optional anymore for me to be w/o protection. A do-rag is cooler and more comfortable and less likely to be taken off and left somewhere than a hat. Also, on me, as I said, it looks better than most hats.

But anyway Rabrrrrr, unless you wear a blindfold and use darts or somesuch to choose clothes for purchase, there is at least some element of playing dress-up in your own clothing choices. Why get even slightly worked up about what anyone else chooses for their dress-up time?

Edited to add: But that multiple shirt thing? Fuck that in June.

20. Is it possible he was having a "bad hair day" or maybe didn't wash his hair?
And about the shirts: maybe he was on his way to the laundromat, or wasn't sure about today's weather.

Lastly: Maybe he really is mentally challenged..?

And why does his manner of dress piss you off so much?

24. Well if they think it's style
Then yeah, but...

Sometimes, I'll wear a rolled up bandanna around my forehead to keep my hair outa my face, but not in public.
And sometimes I do tie my jacket around my waist - but only because I'm too hot and carrying it that way leaves my hands free. But I don't think it's hip, just convenient.
I also sometimes wear multiple shirts - like a tank top with an open shirt over it.I don't think anyone really wants to be forced to look at my armpit hair.
So should I be hit with a board? And if you say yes I'll hit you with one! And I have years of experience beating the hell out of people, so be careful!

Khash.

25. you're one up on me, I wear the bandanna in public
If I have to ferry my kids and I haven't had a chance to shower yet I either slap on a baseball hat or a bandanna. But I've also been known to drive them to school wearing a bathrobe and slippers so clearly I'm not at all concerned with fashion or what the hell other people think.

26. I usually go my own way when it comes to fashion
Not long ago I went out for cigs. Now, at home I'm a nudist. But I put on a pair of black shorts, a black tie, no shirt, a black suit jacket buttoned up, and pulled my hair back with a black ribbon. But I also had to stop at my parents' for something.

My mom: What the hell do you think you look like?
Me: Hot?

Khash.
