The band is long gone, but some of the songs written 15 years ago still the nail on the head today. Lyrics like this are so prophetic it's frightening: http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/In-Conclusion-lyrics-Warrior-Soul/ACCF55F8500C8C7748256C9C00071DF1

Yeah, a lot of it is Canadian politics, but it's still political. And any band writing a song called "Fucked Up Ronnie" at the height of Jelly Bean Brain's popularity deserves a place in this poll

31. You left out Steve Earle.... |
|
And, yes, he usually tours with a band. He's played acoustic folk, pure bluegrass & a bit of Irish, among other styles. But his band is pretty darn electric.
Some of his songs have specific ties with current events (John Walker's Blues), others show some social consciousness. The rest are just good songs.
He's got his own website: www.steveearle.com/
But this fan site is even better: www.steveearle.net/
He's also managed to survive in Nashville for many years--the very belly of the Country Music Industry Beast (enemy of all that is good in Real country music).
Check him out.

"All the squares go home!" is a stronger political statement than anything come out from Ochs or Rage or Woody or the Clash or anybody.
