Leaving for Washington, DC early Wednesday morning!!!
My very first visit in my (ahem) 37 years... Any last-minute suggestions of things to do and/or see?

So far, I'll be doing the usual touristy stuff- monuments, museums, Capitol, etc... and I'll be making a side-trip to Williamsburg, VA. Perhaps some clubbing... Finally, I'll be going to see the True Colors concert (B-52's, Cyndi Lauper, et al... :bounce: ).

What say you, wise DUers? Any fun suggestions?

You know I live near DC, right? PM me if you go out one night...maybe we can meet for a drink or something...:hi:
On edit: The Air and Space museum and its new annex at Dulles airport are great not to be missed stops...

I'll have my laptop with me, so I'll let you know! I'll be there from the 4th until the 12th.

The Air and Space museum is definitely on the list- looking forward to that.

2. When are you going to be in Williamsburg?
We should hook up with some Richmonders. :bounce:

Be sure to see the Holocaust Museum. It is absolutely amazing. Haunting.

I recommend it highly. (And not just because they're a client)

6. Let me double check my itenerary....
the dates have been changing based on the whims of others, and I honestly haven't looked at them since they were locked down.

12. Sunday might be best...
As I see a mistake in the itenerary- the concert is on SATURDAY. I don't know how it got put down as being on Sunday. It won't be a big problem- we'll just have to leave Williamsburg a little earlier.

35. No Rosie on that particular date....
... and no Indigo Girls, either. But hey- it was fate that the dates coincided anyway, so I won't complain.

8. Two new museums in the area
include the Newseum and the crime museum, sort of a CSI-type museum from what I'm told. There's the International Spy Museum as well, which is always fun. None of these museums are free, though, whereas all the Smithsonian museums are.

As for clubs, don't ask me. I'd rather go to prison than to a club.

I'm a chemist who has dabbled in forensic work, so the crime museum would probably be right up my alley...

Just got an email from a headhunter out of Baltimore, wanting to talk to me about a position in the Northeast. Maybe I should pack my suit to go on an interview?

18. You will probably see lots of detours, one way streets and traffic circles.
That city has about the craziest traffic grid I've ever seen in my life. If you travel, take the Metro.

A local friend will be doing all of that for me. And I think the plan is to use the Metro as much as possible.

24. Adams Morgan
If you've never tried Ethiopian food, DC is the place to start. There are a number of places in the Adams Morgan neighborhood in lower northwest.

Skip the Georgetown club scene. Overpriced, cheesy in a spoiled kid sort of way.

25. This is a type of event that flies under the radar.
I don't know what you're in to, but a Vespa/Lambretta/Scooter rally is taking over DC this weekend.

More info here: http://www.scootergate.us/1.html

If you're into: scooters (duh), Ska, Reggae, Rocksteady, Motown, Mods, Rudeboys, Skinheads (the good kind), girls in tiny dresses, guys in suits, and lots of booze, I'd say it's in your best interest to check out at least one of the events. It's a fucking blast.

When I was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, I would take the drive down from time to time. Nice bit of history there.

Have a great time!
