I've been ODing on his music again, like four organs, music for 18 musicians, tehillim, 3 movements for orchestra (which I'm listening to now), triple quartet, piano phase, music for pieces of wood, it's gonna rain, clapping music, desert music, etc., and I say, to hell with anyone who thinks he's a hack.
(though for the one person at DU I know who is driven crazy by Reich, I can support that, since you never called him a hack :-)).
There are a lot of incredible composers, including Glass and Monk and others who do insanely difficult music, but let's face it, there ain't no one who does it like Reich. Brings me to tears when I allow the tears to come.
If you can't recognize not just the mathematical/technical genius of Reich, but the emotional and honest integrity of Reich, than you are probably a Beyonce/Nora Jones/Justin Timberlake fan.
Was that last paragraph too judgmental?
