3. what a terrible story and i'm wondering if they gave him a beating before they tied

him up and maybe he had some internal injuries, if these assholes tied him to a tree then a wicked beating might be the norm at their house.

4. Actually I'm not sure what is going on here.

It's a teenager not a boy. And how the hell does sleeping outside overnight kill someone.

I'm not defending the parents they sound like pieces of work (Though they may have been exasperated by the boy and this was the last thing they thought of) but there is much much more to this story.

You just can't die from being outside 12 hours in NC in june.
