I Hate Tiger Woods
The guy is an amazing golfer. Superhuman, really. And good for him. But I've heard way too many stories of what a dick he is in real life.

Like for instance, when he's at a restaurant, someone in his entourage has to inform the server "please don't address Mr. Woods directly."

Plus, he's a very bad tipper.

If you've never worked in Food and Bev, you probably don't get it or don't care. But if you have, you do.

2. More like Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs
on why he doesn't believe in tipping:

Nice Guy Eddie: C'mon, throw in a buck!
Mr. Pink: Uh-uh, I don't tip.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't tip?
Mr. Pink: Nah, I don't believe in it.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't believe in tipping?
Mr. Blue: You know what these chicks make? They make shit.
Mr. Pink: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money that she can quit.
Nice Guy Eddie: I don't even know a fucking Jew who'd have the balls to say that. Let me get this straight: you don't ever tip?
Mr. Pink: I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Mr. Blue: Hey, our girl was nice.
Mr. Pink: She was okay. She wasn't anything special.
Mr. Blue: What's special? Take you in the back and suck your dick?
Nice Guy Eddie: I'd go over twelve percent for that.

11. Yep...Miss Ross is a piece of Work. One of my close older friends...
...who plays Piano, had a session (Studio recording date) with Miss-y Ross.
Before Ross came in, her Manager came into the studio and informed everybody to:
1. Don't stare at miss Ross
2. Don't talk to miss Ross
3. If miss Ross speaks to you, Keep your head down and always say "Miss Diane Ross"

During the break, One of the Trumpet players turned to my friend and said (softly):
"Yes Miss Ross...Would you mind Blowing it out of your skinny Ass??"

4. I've been in an entourage several times
and the people always loved to talk to the waiter/barperson,they are your future customers!! But Woods is probably a little hardcore. I would order my own burger if I was woods.

8. Odd. I've heard the exact opposite about him.
What I always hear about him is that he's a bit private, so he doesn't do the elbow rubbing stuff, but that he's nice, polite, gives to charity, and has the respect of those around him. I hadn't heard the tipping thing before.

The one I hear is a real ass is Mickelson. He's like Don Johnson's character in Tin Cup--he smiles and acts pretty for the cameras, but he's an arrogant jerk when they are off.

 I never trust rumors, though. I'm surrounded by golfers here in Austin, some quite good, so I hear a lot of stories. Never know what to believe.

15. I've heard the opposite too.
He's almost guaranteed to eat at one of two restaurants around here the week of the Bridgestone Invitational (formerly the NEC) at Firestone. I know people who have talked to him and I've never heard a bad story. Of course, they didn't hit him up when he was in the middle of eating, etc.

Hadn't heard that about Mickelson. I met Fred Couples a loooooong time ago and he was very cool.

9. If I were rich and famous
I wouldn't ever bother eating at restaurants. I'd have everything I wanted made special for me at home or my hotel suite. Seriously. If going out were such a hassle that I didn't feel comfortable even performing the simple task of interacting with my waiter then I'd just stay home. Who needs the frustration?

10. He was very nice when I met him.
Of course, he was just a new professional at the time. He had no entourage, just one guy with him. But he posed for a couple pictures with me and my friends.

I love watching the guy. He's freaking amazing.

16. If you have an entourage, you have to be a dick.
Sorry, nobody is too big or important to have an entourage, unless you are the leader of a country or what have you.

He's a golfer. He hits balls for a living.

20. I was just thinking...
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 12:41 PM by Oeditpus Rex
While half of GD is dragging the MSM naked along cobblestone streets for its weekend-long eulogy for Tim Russert, does anyone harbor a similar fantasy for those in the media who deified Woods years ago and continue to remind us that until He came along, golf was played only by a handful of Scotsmen?

It's reminiscent of the media's consecration of Michael Jordan — who, of course, invented basketball.
