What are YOU geeky about? Here's my geeky list: |
|
*The law and legal decisions
*All things political
*Spelling bees
*Some sports stats (though I do NOT hold a candle to Oedi)
*Crime stuff
*Numerical stuff (though I am terrible at math -- go figure)
So, what are YOU geeky about?

Thanks for showing this to me.
I must say, though, that my very favorite piece of yours is the goddess one you did, inspired by the DU women.
It's a piece that touched me deeply, and that I will never forget.
It was a true gift, my friend.

26. Props, Philadelphia, G&S, and anything I've researched for work |
|
Someone at a cocktail party was talking about how expensive her kitchen remodeling was, and I said "Actually, the average cost of a kitchen remodel in the US is $X" and one of the women turned to me and said "What do you DO for a living?"
Because I do market research and need to be totally conversant about whatever we're studying, I have these deep, narrow pockets of knowledge. Mostly in health care. I know everything there is to know about osteoporosis, and can't name a single bone in the body.
I did props for all 12 existing Gilbert & Sullivan operettas (which makes me the Queen of Geeks) and I can make anything out of nothing - trunks that are for a magician on one side and a pirate on the other, Greek-looking instruments, fairy wands, jester caps, flower garlands that light up - nothing is too bizarre for the Props Goddess. Sadly, this is a completely non-transferable skill that I can't make any money from!

Extremely anal about organization. I even have my thousands of saved files organized according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Security: Antivirus and anti-spyware programs are kept up to date and ran at regular intervals. For safe surfing, I have a firewall, Siteadvisor, NoScript, Flashblock, Adblock, etc.
My telescope and amateur astronomy in general.
My bikes: the mountain bike and the motorcycles.
My canoe and my camping equipment in general.

*New explanations/findings within anything Astrophysics
*Water testing/water treatment measures (I have a Koi pond.)
*Viktor Schauberger, Nikola Tesla, etc. (File this under 'alternative, free or natural energy.')
*Vintage stuff
*Keeping somewhat track of the new hotshots in German literature (often to never see them again ...)
And, contrary to Heidi's beliefs, there's no Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica or Monty Python on my geek list, although I enjoy them all (and have books, videos and DVDs of it, ooops!) ;)

Doctor Who and SF in general - and no we are not losers who can't get laid, once an entire SF convention I went to got thrown out of the hotel because we were having group sex in the elevators. But it was fun!
Math - I'm trying to teach my mom algebra. She failed it 3 times in High School. I also used to tutor math.
Language.
Jane Austen
Computers - which is a problem because everybody comes to me with their computer problems. My SO is really bad about this. He called me and asked me to come to Boston to reinstall his OS. I told him to stick the CD in and it would guide him through.
Physics.
Any kind of tech.
Sex - and not just for naughty reasons. I'm interested in how it effects people's lives, their society, the biology of it. Porn, too, and most of it doesn't appeal to me - but often reflects what is going on in a society at the time. Everyone comes to me for this, too. Conversations you do not want to have: my mom asked me what anal sex was and how do people do it? I was 14. Recently she asked me what fisting was!
Khash.
