This post is for people with weird names |
|
This post is for everyone who has a weird name. My first name is Ebony. I'm kind of pissed with my parents for giving me my name. Sometimes I think about changing it, because who would take someone named Ebony seriously? Is there there anyone else who is struck with a weird name?

People look at me like I'm a space alien if I give that one out, so I usually shorten it to just 'Andre'.
And god help the person who tries to pronounce that, or spell it if they hear it. They usually fail.

2. I like Ebony. And I can think of less serious-sounding names, |
|
but won't name 'em because they will no doubt belong to Loungers and that would start a whole thing.
I don't really have a weird name. There were 6 girls with my name in my third grade class. It's kind of ethnic (I grew up in kind of an ethnic enclave), but has become pretty mainstream. So, no, not weird.

Every time someone makes fun of freeperspeech they end up using my name.
That, and combined with my middle and last name, people expect me to be british or something. Just 'cause I've got a UK sounding name.

7. Barry. It was years before I met another "Barry". |
|
In NY it's not uncommon, but where I grew up in the central valley of California, ag communities with mostly Italian, Portuguese, Filipino, German, or Mexican families, there was no such animal as a "Barry".
But I do remember Barry Goldwater and how the Filipino neighbor farmworker, Ike, voted for him because he had my first name. I used to ride around on the tractors with Ike, before starting in first grade and during the summers.
My four-year-old sister, Julie Ann, picked the name.
She wanted to name me, "Barry Ann".
I didn't fly.
I love her all the same.

8. My first and middle name (1 out of 2) are so bad... |
|
that Channing (not my real name) is more normal.
I've got one of those high Scottish aristocracy full names...complete with suffixes, epithets and titles.
So...one day when I get settled down, My middle name is becoming my first name, Channing is becoming my middle name and I'll keep the surname but the rest of the word-soup is getting truncated.
