Dear Baseball Fans: George Sandel sucks! |
|
Bears 6, Blue Crabs 5. Top of the 9th, two out. Sandel (shortstop) throws it away on a routine grounder, allowing a runner to score from second.
In the bottom of the 9th, Bears 7 Crabs 6, Sandel hits a solid double and is thrown fucking out trying to stretch it to three. Two outs. What do we need? Baserunners! What do we get? Sandel! :banghead:
We subsequently managed to load the bases, only for our third baseman to pop up to first.
Sandel, you suck! 13 errors in 50 games . . .
Thank you for listening.

1. How many outs when he was TOA? |
|
Thirteen errors in 50 games really isn't a lot for an A-ball shortstop. I'll have to check, but I'd bet Vizquel made that many when he played in Salinas.

It's just that the errors burn me. I know they're not uncommon at this level but . . . y'know, there's no good time for an error.

3. One out's when you take the most baserunning chances |
|
OTOH, there's the thing about not running into an out at third, so it's kind of a push.
I can't get too mad at a guy for a hustle mistake, especially a kid — unless he was out by 30 feet. Then I make him pitch BP tomorrow. :D
Vizquel had 25 errors in 113 games at Salinas in '87 (109 at short, four at second). Besides inexperience, in the minors you get some rough infields, and infielders will also get a couple extra throwing errors because of young first basemen who haven't learned how to position themselves.

4. You should've seen Butch. He was absolutely livid. I could practically |
|
hear him say "god dammit!" I surely could read his lips.
He was only out by about 20 feet.
That's a great link - thanks!

I sent our roomie a text message: * "Glad to see you pitch tonight. Tell Sandel I said he sucks." He came back with "Haha, he does!"
* My family's in town and our roomie is staying w/ a teammate this week. So accomodating, so self-effacing, so helpful around the house - he is terrific, and if he needs a place next summer, he's staying here.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs www.somdbluecrabs.com
They're an expansion team in the Atlantic Professional Baseball League (unaffiliated w/ MLB) www.atlanticleague.com
We're hosting a player. These minor league guys don't make much, so they rely on the community for board. We're happy to do it.
