How can employers be so capricious?
A week from last Tuesday, I had the interview of my life--SLAM DUNK! It went on for half an hour longer than expected, because my interviewer liked me so much. And it's a great job, with a prime location in a high rise overlooking Times Square, good pay, benefits aplenty, and so forth...so when will I hear back from you? I asked. "By Friday," they told me.

Last Friday came and went. Then Monday and Tuesday, without a word. Yesterday, I decided to call, figuring they hired someone else. Nope, she said, we're still sorting through the bureaucracy--the position has not yet been filled. I was stunned, but I said very little else, other than "Thanks for the information."

I've been through this before. Another week will go by, with no word. Then, two weeks later, I'll call, and they'll say "Oh, yes, we hired someone else about a week ago. Didn't someone call you?" ARRGH!

1. Oh things can get worse than that
I was hired by a bookstore who intended to fire me from the start. They lied and said the job was M to F from 10 to 7. Told me that in all three interviews. Not true. Also unpaid mandatory meetings every Saturday night for 4 hours. A coworker finally said "Haven't you got it yet? They intend to fire all of us. The whole thing is a set up!" She was right. Everybody got fired.
