Radio Lady: How to Beat this Summer's Heat! Great Ideas for You!.. from "The View"
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 03:58 PM by Radio_Lady
Kitchen Witch was hot last night down in the OC, and I am adding this in because I'm thinking of her this afternoon. (I'll advise her of this thread in a PM.) While folding laundry today, I saw part of "The View."

Several suggestions for beating the summer heat were discussed, because the crew is going to Nevada next week. Here's what I found on the website today:

"The Ladies are hitting Las Vegas for a week starting this Monday, and temperatures there can hit 110 degrees, so today they learned the best possible ways to beat the heat from lifestyle expert Jane Buckingham. So to battle the boil wherever temperatures are rising this summer, here are the gadgets, clothes, and beauty products that Jane highly recommends:

GADGETS:
1. The Bedfan® ($78.15) from activeforever.com & ($89.95) from www.bedfan.com
Bed Fan delivers a cool breeze between the sheets. The fan attaches to the foot of the bed and quietly blows fresh, cool air between your top and bottom sheets, instantly dispersing built-up body heat trapped under the covers. Low-profile design, handheld control! (I LOVED THIS ONE!)

2. Chill Misting Fan ($20) www.brookstone.com
Chill out and beat the heat with our new portable misting fan! Powerful fan with a built-in mister quickly cools the air around you for instant relief from the hot summer sun. Features a large reservoir for water and ice and a carry strap for easy portability. The flexible fan blades are finger-safe, yet deliver a strong breeze.

3. Brookstone USB Fan ($15) www.brookstone.com
Keep cool on the go with a laptop-powered USB fan. Just plug it into your computer's USB port for an instant breeze anywhere. Safe, soft nylon fan blades and a gooseneck design with an attractive matte chrome finish.

4. Chillow® comfort device ($25.95) www.heatreliefdepot.com
The Chillow® Comfort Device is a thin, very soft, medical-grade, non-electric thermo regulating device. If you "flip" your pillow looking for the "cool spot", you've been searching for the Chillow® device all your life! Chillow® Comfort Device is designed to keep your pillow cool. The Chillow® Comfort Device is a steady, lasting, and super comforting sensation which doesn't blow air, make noise, or cost money to run. There is no product in the world like it. Just activate it one time, and leave it in your pillow full-time.

5. Lava Buns™ Warming/Cooling Seat Cushion ($29.95) www.heatreliefdepot.com
LavaBuns™ is a revolutionary new cushion that retains heat for up to six hours and cooling for up to 4 hours. LavaBuns™ can also be chilled in your refrigerator for a few hours and you have a cooling cushion. And it is so soft and comfortable....you'll want to use it as a regular seat cushion. Also can be used for spot cooling and warming for your back, head and other areas.

6. MiraCool Doggie Cooling Mat ($12.99) www.heatreliefdepot.com
Popular worldwide. The MiraCool Doggie Mat is designed with channels that hold MiraCool water activated Cooling Crystals and work to cool dog's body on contact. Just soak mat in cool tap water allowing the MiraCool crystals to absorb water. Shake off excess. When hydrated, the pad provides a cool cushiony soft resting spot on floor, patio or other shady place.

CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES:
1. Sun Precautions Clothing, www.solumbra.com
Solumbra fabric is a lightweight material that not only beats the heat but provides more than 30SPF and block more than 97% of both UVA and UVB rays.
* Mid Sleeve Tee for kids, $34.95
* Toddler Cargo, $37.95
* Unisex Ultra Athlete Pants ($79.95) and Ultra Athlete Shirt ($94.95) $79.95
* Jacket, 94.95
Pants and Jacket have the UVS Technology (Ultra Ventilation Technology) that provides full-throttle cooling power. Designed for extreme sport or heat, UVS clothing works like a non-stop fan scooping in air through carefully engineered vents that blow air around your body and push it out through generous mesh panels under the back yoke and/or side panels. The more you move, the most air circulates. And, like all Solumbra products, they provide sun protection.

2. Reef Dram Men's Sandal ($45) www.piperlime.com
Desperate times call for desperate measures when the weather is hot and you're quenched for thirst, Reef sandal "Dram" saves the day. The multifunctional shoe provides a canteen with screw cap on the bottom of the sole- simply unscrew, drink, and stay cool.

Both guys and gals enjoy wearing our Bandoo Brim...the lightweight, soft brim, reversible sun visor from BluBandoo. Just soak it in water for 5 minutes and it will keep cool for hours, often times for days!

4. Insulated Evaporated Cooling Cap ($24.95) www.hammacher.com
This evaporative cooling hat uses a patented Hydroweave system that actually uses the suns energy to cause evaporation that draws heat away from your head. You charge the hat by running it under cool water, after its water is wrung out, the hat keeps your head up to 30 degrees cooler than the outside air temperature while keeping you dry and comfortable. The Hydroweave system combines hydrophilic (water-attracting) and hydrophobic (water-rejecting) fibers in a three-layer fabric that conducts body heat upwards, while retaining the cool water and releasing it slowly through evaporation; even while the middle layer holds onto water, your head remains cool and dry thanks to an inner lining that water cant permeate. The end result is a hat that actually cools you more effectively the hotter the air temperature.

5. Cool Head ($8.95) www.heatreliefdepot.com
COOL HEAD™ is a patented under-the-hat personal cooling system. It consists of a reusable gel pack, which you freeze, and an ultra soft terry cloth pouch that adheres to the interior crown of your hat with a Velcro attachment.

1. Cool Surge portable air cooler
Has anyone tried those Cool Surge portable air coolers? I was wondering if it was a gimmick or for real. How do they work? The web site gives very few details.
