Okay, this is a stupid question, but I have to ask. How does one interview a landscaper? |

Okay, I realize this is not brain surgery, but we need to hire someone to shape a tree in our front yard. How do I know I'm making the right decision before it's too late?
We had someone else shape the tree a couple of years ago. It was disastrous, and the fact that there was a huge language barrier only added to the problem. If I could do it myself, I would, but gardening and me are not compatible.
So. If you've ever had to do this, or hire someone who did, how did you know you were making the right choice?
Julie edited to change an error in tree location ;-)

No. Ask for the location of some of their other work. If you like the work...hire them. If the work looks like shit...next! Make sure the example work is comparable to what you need done.

We know someone whose entire neighborhood has a crew come in and do the work, but we can't afford a crew. <G>
I will definitely try the "look at their work then make a decision" route. Seriously, you should see the tree in the front yard. It looks like something out of "Harry Potter".
Thank you for the suggestion! Julie

2. Do you know anybody that's had this kind of work done that |
|
would give a rec to their person?
Otherwise, I agree with the above. Or see if they have a website with before and after pics of work they've done.

5. Most of the neighbors seem to be green thumbs around here |

I envy their skill. Therefore, I'm a little stuck on recommendations.
I was just checking out the listings in Craigslist, and I found a few already with websites. Thank you!
