Is there a Sex in the City thread tonight? |
|
If not. Here it is.
I'm settled in watching the first hour of memories.
I've only watched the last two seasons so this is kinda fun.

Miranda's mother in law had stroke, moved in with Miranda & steve. Carrie went to bookstore that had her book, people wanted to talk to her & through a party for her. MB had a museum showing and guilted her into going there instead of her party.

After waiting alone at museum again, Carrie got pissed & went to the party that was being thrown for her.
Party had all ready busted up.
She went back to the room, MB and her got into fight & he slapped her (by accident ya right)
Charlotte interviewing parents that wanted to give up baby, then they changed their minds. But came to New York anyway cause the had never been there.

Steve's mom had stroke and has dymentia. She wandered off. Miranda went and found her. Brought her home then helped her get a bath. Magda, walked by and is proud of Miranda.
At the hotel desk in Paris Carrie is trying to get single room, when WHO WALKS IN THE DOOR.
After hearing about the slap, Big runs upstairs to beat up MB, Carrie runs after, the end up tripping and laying on the floor and laughing hysterically.
Carrie asks Big to take her home.
Charlotte gets news that she will adopt chinese baby in 6 months.
Big drops her off at her apt. in New York. Big mentions that he can't get hotel room till 1am. Carrie asks him if he wants to come up. he replies
Absa fucking lutly.
The 3 girls are in their usual seats at the diner, when Carrie walks through the door. They all start screaming & hugging.
Carrie is then seen walking down the street and cell phone rings, she looks at the name. JOHN Carrie answers and its Big saying that the property in NAPA is one the market and he should be back in New york soon.

 I'm such a damned sappy, romantic idiot it kills me, but I've had a love/hate relationship with this show. Sometimes I find it fascinating, other times I find the characters pretty shallow and dull and want to scream at how "immature" they are. However, they left it with a bit of depth (just a bit), but it was nice. A good end. :)

I also noted some clues to the ending in the pre show. When I saw them I knew she would end up with John.
They never said his name, but they showed it. What a nice touch.

Just as all of us went through our "sex and the city" years, we have changed our priorities, and our outlook on life as we have matured. God, I hope they give us a twice a year update...a wonderful comment on how our roles evolve.

I thought they ended it on a great note. I started bawling when Harry and Charlotte saw their daughter's picture for the first time. And the scenes with Miranda and Mary were extraordinarily touching - I love seeing how her character has changed through the years. Anyway, it was a great show and a great run - I'll miss it soooo much! I can't wait for the movie!!!!!!

That's when we're at our best. I believe a young hunk like Smith would be most likely to deal with that real life situation.
With age we lose our maturity. Whatever.

....John. They were always the best couple.
Sam: You got a hunk of a hunk. Smart choice.
Mir: You got a family again after losing one. Steve is one of the most realistic guys ever.
Char: I hated you for years, but I am happy for you and Harry.

There weren't any big shockers, but it was a very good finale IMO. There wasn't much talking in the episode, but there were a lot of touching moments.
Hopefully they'll get together and sign for the movie. I hadn't seen the first 2 seasons, so I'll probably end up getting the DVD and catching up on some old episodes.
Sad to see all these good series ending this year. I'll miss Sex and the City and Frasier.

this was the best series finale I've ever seen. I love it that we know Big's name - I think John is just fine :-). I love the fact that they had a great "fairy tale" ending to everyone's life - I happen to like fairy tale endings. What an incredible show. I will miss it terribly.

36. bathing your demented mother in law is a fairy tale ending? |
|
It was beautiful, poignant, poetic.
Growing up and learning to make sacrifices Accepting that your fate is to adopt a nearly one year old child as opposed to a newborn, or having one of your own
The endings were joyous because everyone was happy in spite of disappoints and limitations and the unnicities of reality.
It was a great ending.

their relationship? I don't know which season I started watching in, but never really got the whole BIG thing. Was he married before? I think I remember he said he didn't want kids. I think I started watching around the time Miranda met Steve, or shortly thereafter. What season would that be?
I'll miss the show, but my husband won't.

I wish Carrie had left the museum earlier, though.
I like the idea that we don't know where the Carrie/Big relationship is going. They'll be together but I still have that lingering doubt that he'll treat her badly again. I think it's a very positive sign that she finally knows his name. She can still set the parameters.
The "abso-fuckin-lutely" line was great. He said that to her when they first met.
The slap from Alex would definitely be the last straw for me. Kudos to Carrie for walking out on him!
And as much as I wanted her to stay in Paris on her own - or with Big - she had to go back to NY. The story is about sex AND the city, after all.
I will actually miss those ladies.
