I'm going to be moving soon, and giving a lot of stuff away.
When I move in a few months I'm moving into a furnished apartment. I have an apartment full of stuff I don't really need or want to take with me.

A kitchen full of gadgets, baking sheets and racks, pots and pans, and stuff. A large set of utility shelves, 5 large bookcases full of books (after already giving away 6 boxes of books), Seven large bookcases (four with glass doors), a stereo, and lots of varous other stuff. I don't want the hassle of selling it. I'd rather give it away to people who can get good use out of it all. Anyone who can pick it up, or pay for shipping, can have what they want.

I'm going to try to borrow a digital camera to take pictures to post at some point soon.

I'm accepting PMs if people have requests. Anything that I can't give away is getting donated to Housing Works when I move.

7. They are really nice. I wish I could keep them.
But I really won't have room. So I'm going to be keeping the three that don't have glass doors on them. :(

I imagine that someone will take them very quickly. If not someone here then someone will snag them from Housing Works. :)

4. wish Texas weren't so far away, I would definitely snag me some bookcases
there is always a dire need for those in our household.

However, be cautious about what you give away or sell from your kitchen gear. SAve it for last because you may end up replacing it later ..

guess it depends on what kind of cooking you may be doing after you move. I have said for years that if I had to do with only one piece of cooking equipment it would be my big old beat up wok. It is a very versatile tool.

Just when I think I need to ditch something, a dire need arises for it! I used a set of Pyrex bowls last week that I had not touched for years, and I had to use the big bowl 3 times in 3 days, and I dragged out a bunch of serving pieces I hadn't used in I don't know how long.

So I hope you keep a few things..I would hate to have to pare mine down. On the other hand, what do you have tha you KNOW you just won't need anymore? Post a list, if it is small and shippable I could get into buying something interesting for my kitchen.

Our poor daughter will have her hands full when she has to clean out this house after we are gone, poor kid.
Both of us are ridiculous book and movie collectors.

Do you think RetroLounge could help you out in the actual book area?

Anyway, best of luck with the move and all the changes involved. Good you are in NYC with other DU folks nearby.

OH are you feeling any better today?

9. I'm definitely keeping my knives
even though I can't safely use them right now. If my hands improve then I'll definitely want to have them. I doubt I'll keep anything else in my kitchen. I gave away all my cast iron already because I couldn't lift it. All my other pots and pans are really good quality things, but the kitchen in the new place is already stocked with good stuff.

I offered Retrolounge first dibs on the books, but he only really needs hardcovers. I had very few hardcovers and those went out with the first batch of books I donated.

Thank you.

I hope the move goes smoothly and we have good luck with all the arrangements.

I'm doing better today than I was earlier this week. I'm still exhausted, of course, but the thunderstorm has passed so some of the pain is gone. :)

12. glad you are feeling better. Amazing how weather affects our bones and
muscles, isn't it?

I would actually appreciate feeling really achy and stuff because it would mean RAIN was coming and we need it desperately.

I totally understand getting rid of heavy stuff. I am looking to replace my dishes after 27 years because they weigh a LOT and I am afraid I will drop them. They are discontinued so I can't replace them, either. I wanted Fiesta, I love Fiesta but the plates are too heavy.

Maybe you should post a book list on the DU Marketplace? Book rate is pretty cheap and if we bought your books, we could include postage with the money.....

You wouldn't happen to have any I.M. Parker novels would you? :-) :toast:
