What is a good age to move a baby from crib to a bed?
Thanks in advance

A friend wants to give us a new full size bed.

1. With my son.....
... it was the day that he figured out how to climb out of the crib and did a header straight down to the floor.

3. that was my daughter. We took the mattress out of the crib and put her on the floor
for quite a while. Then we acquired a bed somewhere.

4. That's basically what I did, too....
... especially considering that his first response upon hitting the floor with his head was laughter and immediately getting up to try it again.

I've little doubt that he's going to be an adrenaline junkie and X-Games fan....

9. Our kids were little monkeys too.
And before they were able to climb they would not be happy in their cribs unless they were sound asleep.

I wouldn't even bother with a crib if I was doing it again. Both our kids ended up in bed with us, and it was much easier on everyone all around.

14. My son did too, for a time....
Lots of people kept chiding me for it, that it was dangerous, etc... My typical response was a resounding MYOB, of course, but the real reason I wasn't concerned about rolling over on him was that my son becomes a jujitsu master in his sleep- I stayed WELL out of his reach for fear of getting smacked around all night.

16. Neither one of my kids would sleep in a crib.
Looking back, remember snuggling with those little baby/toddler critters every night and morning in our bed are some of my warmest memories of the time. :loveya:

11. That was my mother's test.
Once we wanted to climb out on our own it was time for the youth bed.

2. I'd say around 12
just kidding.

It's different with every child. With our daughter, we went on a trip to China when she was 18 months old, and she usually slept in a bed while there... and, when we came back home, she wouldn't lie down in her crib, so we gave up and put her in a regular bed - however, we just put the mattress & box springs on the floor. That way, if she ever fell out, it was short drop to the floor.

5. 8 - 9 months
We put a twin size mattress on my son's bedroom floor. It was handy too for when I got pissed at the ex, I'd go in there and bunk with my boy instead of on the couch.

6. Look the baby sleeps in the crib, and the boy can sleep with us until he's 21.
Won't that warp him?

It didn't warp my cousin Frank.

You don't have a cousin Frank.

Frank became Francine back in '76, then she joined that cult. I think her name is Mother Shabuubuu, now.

10. my daughter is 20 mos and we moved her when she was 18 mos
but, we took the bed apart, and it's a box spring and mattress on the floor. She never slept well in her crib, but did well in a bed so I gave up and switched her. Some nights she sleeps through, some nights she ends up in my bed. She's only rolled out a couple of times but I put a body pillow on each side of the bed so she doesn't get hurt. Hasn't rolled out in a couple of months now. It all depends on the child, imho.

If you are worried about your child rolling out of bed, there are some railings you can attach to each side to prevent it.

12. When you find them pulling out the slats and beating the wall and crib with them!!
That's what my 2nd oldest did at 10 months old. My Dad had to rebuild the crib! :P
I'd keep them contained until you can't any longer. Having a two yr. old running
around the house at 5 AM getting into things, while you sleep, is not a good thing at all!

He was climbing out of the crib, and getting too big for me to lift in and out anyway- he was 35 lbs at a year.

17. He's big for his age, but not all that big anymore.
He's 7 and just hit 4' tall, about 65 lbs. Crazy muscular though- he has these great big shoulders and always outgrows things there first.

19. Take them out when they start trying to climb out--but be sure
they aren't going to roll out of a big bed.

23. age-wise hard to say, but when they are big enough to try and climb out
for safety sake, put the little one in a bed.
