Are there even 29 trees in 29 Palms CA?
I know I have only driven through there a few times, but damn, seems pretty devoid of any vegetation at all.

It 29 PALMS not palm trees. That is the "leaves" on the palm trees at about 5 or 6 per tree you only need about 6 trees.

25. a family member did some archeaology out there a couple years ago
sent me a pic with some salt cedars (tamarisk)in the background. If there is one of those there is likely to be 1000.
