2. Seasons 8 and 9 yes, I'll agree. |
|
But seasons 2 - 7 are fucking classic.

If you don't enjoy being teased, it certainly isn't for you.
Personally, I thought it universally well-acted, well-written, witty and moving. Ditto for the current movie, which I like a lot more than the first.

6. I saw the movie this weekend and liked it too |
|
Like you, better than the first.
I enjoyed the first three seasons of the show, but lost interest soon after. Even though not a big fan, I thought this latest movie was thought-provoking and well-done.

7. I thought the last couple of seasons ran low on ideas... |
|
...but still found it worth watching for the quality acting. The replacements for Mulder and Scully were cool by me.

8. The show fell victim to what I call "Twin Peaks Syndrome" |
|
That is when it becomes apparent that there ARE NO solutions to the grand mysteries that are being proposed, and that the writers are just making shit up as they go along--usually with a lot of inconsistencies and logical flaws. This makes it almost impossible to care or think too hard about what's going on.
Several great shows have fallen prey to Twin Peaks Syndrome. Fortunately, it seems like "LOST" may be saved from this scourge... so far. But even that show had me shaking my head in frustration for a while.

9. The questions the X-Files raised were always too big ever to be answered definitively... |
|
...but if it becomes obvious that we're being teased, I can understand how that would irritate viewers.
I enjoy a good tease, though, and thought they did it pretty well, even at the end. It makes sense to me now why there were no UFOs in the new movie. We got answers--sort of--in the first flick concerning alien invasion, so it was time to fiddle with another direction.
