There should be more male nudity in feature films. |
|
How can we promote more male nudity in feature films? Why is so wrong to show a penis in an R-rated film?

1. I've often wondered why they don't do more full frontal male nudity in R rated films |
|
I've seen it before in rated R films so I know it's not against the rules, but it's just not something you see very often. Maybe film-makers are afraid of the dreaded NC-17 rating.

4. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story had a good |

scene with a man's naked penis. I think it was a wonderful film.
Another good R rated movie with a naked penis is "Eastern Promises." Bathhouse scene, you can see everything, great.

They certainly like to have a lot of female nudity. It's almost like they deliberately gear movies toward men and don't really care how women feel about it. I'm totally not a prude but sometimes the nudity is just gratuitous and that pisses off my feminist side. If it's integral to the story I'm totally fine with that but I find most of the time it's topless scenes that really don't contribute anything to the story. Pure TITillation so to speak.

11. Who runs the movie industry? Women or men?.... |
|
...I know it's a rhetorical question, but it kind of answers why there is more female nudity than male.

16. Yep, it's a male dominated industry, but still |
|
women and gay men want to see movies too.... It's a suggestion.
I think the male dominated industry wants to obscure the penis or at least mystify it as some kind of power source, instead of a sex object.

19. I think a penis is more likely to not qualify for an 'R' rating. |

It seems to me that things keep getting more and more conservative--and puritanical--in this country. I remember seeing it more frequently--though still not frequent--in movies back in the eighties than I see now. The NC-17 rating was created so there could be movies with more adult themes, which I imagine could also include male nudity, because the X rating had been co-opted by porn and they wanted a usable rating. Unfortunately, NC-17 has become a death sentence for a movie. Theaters won't show them; newspapers won't take ads for them (examples of the aforementioned "more conservative and puritanical)."

20. British actors are so much more comfortable with nudity than American actors. |
|
I don't quite get why that's the case. Ewan McGregor, Daniel Craig among others have done films with full frontal nudity.
When there IS male nudity in American films, it frequently seems to be in some sort of comedic context. Very curious.
