It's official - there are no hotel rooms left in DC for the inauguration |
|
I may have to stay in the suburbs and I hate that. That or I'll have to win the lottery so I can afford the $500-1000/night some of these places have.

5. well my thing is if I can't find a place in DC then I want to find a place near the Metro |
|
The other problem with DC is that hotel rates go way up during the week since DC is a city that has alot of out-of-towners coming to DC during the business week (Lobbyests who can write off $500/night hotel rooms).
So I'm really thinking this time it would be best to find a place in the burbs that is close to a Metro station. At least the rate will stay cheap during the week AND parking is included.

First - how close are you to the metro station? I don't want to have to drive into DC for anything since I know that alcohol will be involved
Second - I plan on partying and I'm not sure if your mom would appreciate you renting out her house for drunken DUers. I'm not THAT bad of a drunk or something - but it's gonna be a fun week and well, if I stayed at someone's parents house I'm going to want to keep it calm since I would never be disrespectful in someone else's house..

12. Well I just booked a room and my intentions are this |
|
I booked a room and put 4 guests for in the room. So that means I have room for 3 other folks who might also be interested in the convention. For the rate I got (I'm in Silver Springs) I could probably foot the entire price of the bill; however, I would hope that whomever stays with me will provide some money towards the price.
And I've done the DC metro plenty of times without issues DC has one of the better metros if you ask me.

14. Oh agreed, I feel totally safe on the DC metro |
|
But if I were drunk I'd want someone sober watching my back. Especially at night.
Either way....I'm envious that you'll be there amidst President Obama's inauguration! :patriot:
(just had a thought...wonder what the crowd's reaction will be when he says "I, Barack Hussein Obama..."--cause there have to be a few clueless morans that'll go "Did he just say Hussein?!?"

Is going for $379 per night........I wouldnt pay that much for a RedRoof
BWI airport and IAD airport have rooms left, at reasonable prices, under $150 nightly....
And they are near Metro and Amtrak

If I go, I'll just drive to and back.

8. Well this is my mentality - I'd rather get some place a bit more affordable |
|
Normally I'd do the Capital Hill Suites but that doesn't look like it's happening. And let's face it, even if there wasn't an Inauguration, downtown hotel prices in DC during the week go crazy. I use travel with Pharma lobbyests and we'd stay at the JW - during the week the rates were crazy! Thankfully the company was paying for it.
The only other thing I was contimplating was just getting one outrageously priced hotel for the night of the Inauguration and then perhaps taking advantage of staying with friends on some of the other nights (Was hoping to do the 17th - 21st). And then hopefully there would be enough other DUers that would be happy to help share the cost PLUS I have a ton of rewards points if I get the Marriott or Hyatt I could use my points to help bring down the costs.

11. I'm in the city for a convention until Monday |
|
Our reservations have a strict must vacate policy, there are no extensions. As much as I would love to see Obama's Inaugural Parade, I think Ill be glad to be out of the city.

13. If you don't have to rush back, it's worth stay. |
|
If he wins this and I'm hoping he does - this will be a historic inauguration and worth the stay. I just booked a cheap hotel in Silver Springs for the event and I think a few DUers are offering their homes for out-of-town DUers

so I figured I'll grab something now and look again (or hopefully not so - cancel) the day after the election
