barely felt it. I don't know of my other brother who is by Silver Lake. Their phone is busy.

The Associated Press
Article Launched: 07/29/2008 12:47:33 PM MDT

LOS ANGELES—A strong earthquake shook Southern California on Tuesday, and the jolt was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and slightly in Las Vegas.

Preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles east-southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said there were not immediate reports of damage or injury in Los Angeles.

The quake struck at 11:42 a.m. PDT. Buildings swayed in downtown Los Angeles for several seconds.

18. They "swayed" like hell over here in Century City.
Pretty serious shaking here on the west side.

I'm waiting to hear from my BF at home in Hollywood--we're just far enough up in the hills (just a flew blocks from Mrs.G's brother) that we don't get much shaking unless it's a BIG quake.

8. CNN is reporting it as a 5.8.
Epicenter was about 10 miles from me. Quite a bit of crockery rattling and furniture wobbling, but otherwise not too severe.

30. That is where I work too.
It didnt do much damage to one half of the office building but the other half really got it bad. We're having a surveyor come out to inspect the damage.

15. Felt it in Encino...
Just a little rattle and then a lot of rolling. No damage, the dogs barked and I failed to take cover or do anything you are suppose to do.

I just got off the phone with someone who works in a high rise downtown Pasadena...much closer to the epicenter...their phones are not working. She said it was pretty scary for a minute.

16. I'm about 40 minutes away from Chino Hills (south).
I felt a little swaying, but nothing moved.

My kid was mad at the cats, "Quit running around upstairs, and making noise." I had to tell Beloved Daughter (11-3/4), "It wasn't the cats .... it was an earthquake. We're fine."

17. Goddamn quake boo-booed my knee.
It shook pretty impressively here in Century City. I happened to be walking to my car downstairs for an early lunch, and was thrown off balance (on already slick tile) just enough to slip and bash the hell out of my knee.

The local news (I'm in LA) isn't reporting any major damage or injuries, so don't get too worried. I've been trying to call my family and failing miserably. Just keep trying!

I was worried about him having a heart attack or something. His ticker isn't in the best shape. I just finally got through to him though...he's okay. Shaken up, but okay.

21. Heck yes, it was!
My first! I'm in downtown LA and it was pretty strong here. I'm such a loser, I just death-gripped my desk and froze in fear. Great survival instincts!

Our campus is basically unscathed, aside from a few small piles of crumbled plaster. But the phone lines are jammed (particularly cell lines), so if anyone's trying to get in touch with someone in SoCal, be patient.

:hi:

Nobody seriously hurt, nothing seriously damaged...and the fault line relieved some pressure. It's all good!

My friends were grabbing my arm saying, "J, it is okay, it is okay" Everyone else at McDonald's was looking at me. My friend said, "She's from Minnesota, it's her first earthquake"

I want Xanax, now!
