1. ...
:spray:

It must be hard to go from the calm land of 10000 lakes to that.

11. I am really trying to maintain some sense of humor here.
I do not think I am being successful though.

21. I think that's why some Californians swear by "earthquake weather"
They need that sense of predictability.

When the L.A. quake news was breaking on DU I was off researching seismic shutoff valves for domestic gas lines. It's code in my county now and while we're not required to do it until we sell or make a major renovation we figured that we OUGHT to do it since it's a cheap enough thing to do.

13. I may be the only one in America who isn't a beach person.
And it's not always hot here. Nope, not always... it just can feel that way sometimes in the summer. :)

22. I was in Scottsdale last weekend, and I swear...
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 05:25 PM by Kutjara
...I saw more wildlife in three days than in the rest of my life. There were geckos of varying coloration, spiders of every shape and size, scorpions (well, one), a confused-looking javelina, jackrabbits, nighthawks and about ten other species of bird I didn't recognize. And this was all without moving more than 20' from the hotel pool.

No problems with snakes.

Spiders/sharks? Absolute irrational fear.

26. We don't have any big spiders.
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 07:13 PM by LeftyMom
I guess they do in SoCal, but that's like eight hours drive away, and last I checked spiders can't get a license. And rumor has it the sharks can't get you unless you get in the water. And that's a stupid thing to do anyway, because it's really fucking cold.

Then again, we don't have earthquakes either. :D

20. It was a substantial one, Kitchy!
I'm so glad you called and that you're OK.

Little damage has been reported, but I know
buildings near the epicenter sustained cracks
and some ceiling tiles fell at Karl's work site.

It was scary- even to longtime Kahlifornia
residents. If anyone tells you otherwise,
they are probably fibbing.

I'd write about the earthquake. Then I'd use the quote from Jerry Lee Lewis: There was a whole lotta shakin goin on. I'd also describe driving cars during earthquakes as "You Drive Rollercoasters."
