There's a total solar eclipse of the sun early tomorrow morning.
We can't see it in North America, but I am seriously considering getting up at 3am to watch it webcast live online. I think it could be really cool and I've never seen one before.

Here are a couple of links, if you're interested:

The SF Exploratorium has a team in China and they'll be webcasting live starting at 6:30am EST:

NASA will be webcasting it beginning at 6am EST.

2. My dear Shine!
Ooh, that's a little early for me...

But I have had the extreme good luck to have seen one!

1991, in Hawaii!

It was incredible...

Even though I knew what was happening, and understood it, it still made me shiver...

I could readily see why the ancient people were afraid!

4. I was in Honolulu, where it was 97% of totality
I was attending a 6-week teacher training seminar at the University of Hawaii, and we got out of class to go up on the roof and watch it.

All the local stores were selling special eye shields at low prices, so we saw the sun go to a sliver. The most striking thing about the event was that even with just a sliver of sunlight, the sky was no darker than it gets before a severe thunderstorm here in the Midwest.

That same summer, Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines. For several nights afterwards, we had blood red sunsets in Honolulu. Living in a high-rise dorm, we had great views of the horizon.

One night, a local teacher who was an astronomy buff pointed out the fact that we could see both the Big Dipper and the Southern Cross, both low on the horizon in their respective directions.

Lots of atomospheric excitement that summer.

5. News of an eclipse, posted by Shine. That's great!
Of course, most total solar eclipses are eclipses of the sun, but who would be a big enough jerk to give you a hard time about it?
