This opening ceremony is friggin' amazing |
|
I know it isn't hip to like this stuff, but I am really blown away by this whole thing.
I'm not a fan of the Chinese government, but then again.. I'm not a fan of any government. But it's the people who are putting this on and it is really cool to watch.
I am thinking that if this were in the U.S. we would have Toby Keith singing right about now.

1. I'm Not Normally a Fan of Opening Ceremonies |

but it is breathtaking. And so much more hopeful than what you would see in this county. As Chuck Pahlaniuk said:
"When did the future go from being a promise to being a threat?"

8. Sort of like the politics everyone comes here to discuss |
|
It's all entertainment. Trust me, more people are being fooled into thinking that they really have a say so in their politics than people being fooled into thinking that the Olympics are really important.
So... I am taking a deep breath and enjoying some fine entertainment and you keep fighting the good fight for the change in our politics..LOL

It was glorious and uplifting. Sometimes things are just what they are and sometimes money can be well spent on something temporary.

12. This, and maybe the closing ceremonies, |
|
are the only parts of the Olympics I plan on watching. It was stunningly beautiful. The husband said if it were here it would be all Coke and Pepsi logos, but I think you may be dead on with the Toby Keith performance. The whole time I was watching it, all I could think of was "Americans are such clods compared to the beauty of a culture many centuries old." There's not enough grace from sea to shining sea to even come close to comparing to what we saw tonight. :hi:

14. I thought it was gorgeous and some of the technical stuff was just WOW. Now about the commercials |
|
which of course the Chinese had nothing to do with.
1. United Airlines commercials totally rock 2. Coca Cola had one good one and one totally silly one(the clay mation birds) 3. I hate Anhauser Busch commercials for the Olympics because they always make me tear up ESPECIALLY the ones with the Clydesdales!!!!
And the tribute to Jim McKay at the end, nearly killed me.
Enjoyed the opening ceremonies, the parade of nations, although the out of order to my western mind gave me a headache. I kept thinking I had lost Mexico and Germany somewhere.
The Italians were really whooping it up!
The little boy was too cute and the children's chorus singing the Olympic Anthem in GREEK was amazing.
I hated the weird white dresses w/red blotches that one nation put on the women, they were so bad I forgot who they were. I will see that ugly material in my sleep.
So I will be back on my NBC affiliate tomorrow evening to watch swimming etc.
