29 days of temp over 100 degrees in North Texas for 2008. And 27 days where the night time
low did not go below 80.

No wonder everything is so damn brown and crackly.

They think we may get some rain tonight, I sure do hope so.

1. It's been soooo hot this year
But still, I don't think it's as hot as summer of 1997.

:hi:

2. oh Tammywammy there is still time, you know summer doesn't end until October
around here.

nice to see you!

1997 was particularly horrible, so was 1998 and 2005 and 1980 .......

3. Oh, yes 1980
I hear about that summer every year on my birthday...I was born Sept. 4, 1980. My mom tells me how horrible it was. :)

6. I was in marching band practice that year....
I was in my first marching band practice during that particular summer of 1980. It wasn't as bad as I remember it should have been... but that's probably only because I was thirteen or fourteen and could take the heat a little better than these days.

4. Only a few are even trying to keep their lawns from dying.
The rest is all crispy brown dead stuff. Frankly, I don't blame 'em for letting it go- it's a colossal waste of money these days to pour countless gallons of precious fluid onto dirt too dry to absorb it.

People are finally getting the lesson about what's really important and what's not.

5. what's really important is saving the foundation if the grass happens to benefit
then that is fine.

I spot water my rose bushes, potted plants and other assorted things. My front yard looks pretty good because I have a Big Shade Tree and the yard slopes down so when I soak my foundation the front yard does benefit some, and the rose bushes are in the front yard too.

I like to keep it watered also because of the tree. It is a valuable asset in cooling the house, and if it is kept watered well enough, it will stay healthy.

Hopefully we will all get some rain today. I could take the heat if we got a rain every day at 3 like they do in south Florida
