All that time thinking about planning and setting an end date, all out the window. I just stopped 48 hours ago, no nicotine patch, no gum, just stopped. I hope my will holds out because boy do I want to go light up a pack right now.

1. Mr. Butts says, "Keep up the good work!"

"When your nicotine jones kicks into high gear, I'll be waiting."

2. You can do this!!!
I quit on 3/4/2007 - my 38th birthday. I smoked for 25 year.

No gum, no patch. That is how I did it too.

You have made the 48 hours now. Another day or so and all of the physical withdrawals are gone - then it is all about you.

PM me if you need to yell at someone - you can yell at me :pals:

3. I'm scared about going back to work and getting hit with the usual stress. I took a vacation day so
I could sit around and stay relatively calm. It seems a little easier than the last time I tried a few years back. I'm carrying the pack and a lighter so I know that I won't freak, they are right in my pocket, I can grab one and light up any time I want. What will I have with my coffee in the mornings?!:-)

My boss said she'd give me 50 bucks to stop smoking, so I should tell her to bet me next week sometime. LOL.

5. I keep gum in my car, because my biggest problem
was what to do in the car - I started not drinking coffee in the car too. I now drink my coffee at work and I take the first 20 minutes I am there to have my coffee and read DU - that is my "break"

Take the pack and the lighter and get them away from you if you can....

Good luck :pals:

6. I tried drumming on the steering wheel. I think that will be my outlet while driving. Oddly, I think
having the pack is helping. When I'm having a craving, I don't have the added stress of wondering where I'd even get a ciggy. It's right there and it's just on me to say no. I can't really explain it better than that, but I think it's helping. When my wife quit, she kept a pack in her car, the pack went stale. Same kind of idea, they're right there, no need to freak, just say no to them.

go stale.

17. I smoked for a long time
after quitting and falling off the wagon a few times I came to realize I had a THINKING problem - I would literally let those cravings talk me into giving in. Then I started looking at it like a power of wills - me vs that g.d. nicotine voice. I BEAT IT although to be honest, I will always have those times when I'd like nothing more than to light up :)

9. You are probably starting to get a tingly feeling in your hands and maybe your scalp?
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 07:14 PM by alphafemale
If not you will soon.

That is your capillaries already beginning to heal themselves.

Think of that.

Your body is already healing.

I quit several years. It helped me to know that many of the withdrawal symptoms I was going through were actually very positive things.

I had gone could turkey too.

It helped me to chew on toothpicks.

I went through two packs a week for awhile.

Eventually, I was able to give up that oral fixation too.

Hang in there!

It's worth it!

13. It was slight to moderate with me.
As long as you know what it is you won't be freaked out by it.

It was like your hand just started to go to sleep. Just a little creepy crawly.

And let people closest to you know that you are likely to be edgy and irritable for awhile and they shouldn't take it personally.

16. Good for you!
I'm almost up to 4 months myself. I got quitter's flu so bad I vowed never to make myself go through the process again. Also I immediately told all my friends that I quit so that if I start up again they can shame me.

My husband quit too, and he likes using the toothpicks like was suggested up above.

But man those first few days are hard. Hang in there.
