Had the MRI yesterday and the biopsy today-then a call from the surgeon
Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 07:17 PM by Robyn66
he saw the results of the MRI and said that the lesion on the right breast definitely looks malignant but there is always a small chance it isn't but that is very unlikely. AND worst of all, there is a "hot spot" on my left breast that looks similar to the right one that they are very concerned about. I have to go in tomorrow for an ultrasound so see if I need another biopsy done on that spot and I guess that means the cancer has spread.

This has turned out far worse than I thought it would. I am devastated! Plus I was prepared to handle cancer in one breast but now this incredible.

so that is the latest for those of you dear du-ers following my nightmare!
Robyn

5. I can't even beleive I am talking about myself!
This is the most horrifying experience in my life! I was prepared to handle it if we cought it early but now I don't know what I am facing and that is the worst. I am going to go to Boston once I get all the tests done here. If I have any hope at all I can get it at Dana Farber

6. Hang in there Robyn
A very good friend of mine was diagnosed last year with stage 4 breast cancer and she is doing VERY well. Try not to let it scare you out of your wits. You can do this. Take deep breaths and lean on anyone who will help support you. I am a survivor (colon)of six years. I wish I could reach out there and hug you.

I do know three women who had breast cancer and are now cancer-free. I don't know what your religious preferences are, but I'll pray for you. Remember, there's always somebody here on DU so don't stop talking to us, OK?

11. Hi sweetie. You know who this is. The calls are in about Dana Farber
and I have the go-ahead to make "vacation" decisions. I would call you but it's too late. You must remember that you have many, many people who love you and will be going through this hand in hand with you.

13. I know the feeling of living in a nightmare
Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 10:52 PM by latebloomer
and the shock of "this can't be happening to me!" A year ago May I was diagnosed with acute leukemia but am now doing very well.

Work on staying positive and visualizing yourself in perfect health, but also cry, rant and rave when you need to. Your friends and family will rally round- take full advantage of their love, but if you need to be alone, that's OK too. Get the best medical care available- Dana Farber sounds like a good bet. Rent funny movies and laugh your ass off.

My mom had stage 4 breast cancer just before my son was born. He'll be 17 in November and she wondered if she'd see his first birthday. She's alive, kickin and a PITA. One thing I can say is that she's always been a fighter. You need to fight this, and, as my oncologist said to me on my first visit, be there to dance at your children's weddings, and watch your grandkids grow up. Your attitude is at least as important as your medical care.

Big hugs to you. PM me if you like.

15. Following your situation.
Do not despair, Robyn. Maybe the cancer has spread, but that isn't automatically the case. And though it looks malignant, it may not be, or it may be a slow growing tumor.

Many, many hugs to you. I will light a candle and hope somebody listens to prayers.

18. I really hope that things turn out well for you.
My mom caught a lump in her left breast that turned out to be cancerous and then they also found one in her right breast. So I'm hoping that you don't have to go through what she will. Here's to hoping you and my mom will be fine.

PS Will you need to also remove your lymph nodes? I think my mom is going to need to do something like that and she was pretty devastated by the side effects the removal would cause. I'd really urge you to get a doctor that's highly recommended by cancer survivors and is one who you're comfortable with. My mom's initial doctor was great but she injured her surgery hand and my mom went through a bit of trouble trying to find a good replacement in a reasonable amount of time.

And even if both spots are cancer, it doesn't mean that it's spread: a good friend of mine had cancer in both breasts. That was over ten years ago, and she's doing fine. I hope you do as well.

31. I'm sorry to hear about this.
Keep up the good attitude and just take care of business. I also know someone who's survived two bouts of breast cancer. The second one was a surprise - it had spread more than it should have - but they treated it more aggressively because of that, and she's been a survivor of that for about six years now. So hang in there!
