Has anyone been getting fake MSNBC and CNN email alerts? |
|
I have. The past couple of days.
Apparently, they're viruses. Or so I read.

1. Getting them, don't know about the virus part |

My AVG hasn't been alerting me so I kinda doubt it. But unsolicited email goes into my junk folder immediately and I NEVER open anything suspicious.

5. I've been getting CNN ones... I hate CNN so I just deleted without looking. |
|
I also got a notice from myspace that a 23-year-old woman wants to be my friend. Hah! I saw right through that one and deleted her ass!

Firefox keeps labeling them with "Firefox thinks this is a scam"...and yet no matter how many times I label them as junk, they never automatically go into my trash folder. They're clogging up my inbox. :(

The spammers are not "targeting" MSNBC or CNN.

Thunderbird has not been very good at learning to recognize and trash them, either; only some are getting filtered, though I'm careful to mark them all as junk. The mails contain what seem to be genuine links to CNN and MSNBC, but I've taken no chances. Other links in the mails definitely go elsewhere.
I don't subscribe to e-mail alerts from either network, so I can't guess how well these messages are disguised.

they are obviously spam though. i've never understood how people could fall for the email scams and viruses since they tend to be obvious.

18. The emails themselves |
|
Are not. The sites they link to will attempt to place a trojaned version of Flash on your PC. Thats where the virus is.
