Match the area of Boston with it's sister, foreign city
1. Southie
2. Roxbury
3. Dorchester
4. Chinatown
5. Mattapan
6. South End
7. Charlestown

A. Amsterdam
B. Paris
C. Venice
D. Port Au Prince
E. Dublin
F. Beijing

(yes, one foreign city is also linked to two sections of Boston)

There are many more sections of Boston, but I couldn't match them up with another city (or more accurately, gave up trying) so I'm stuck at seven.

3. I don't know
I gave up.

Much of the sections I listed are where I've been working all summer - I haven't worked in JP.

No guesses, and why?

6. My guesses
(and remember, I've been gone a while)

Southie - Dublin

Roxbury and I guess Mattapan - Port Au Prince

Dorchester...no idea.

Chinatown - Beijing

South End - Amsterdam, though I bet I'm wrong with that one.

Charleston - Paris (Bunker Hill )

I know, I did poorly. Only been to Paris of those mentioned.

8. You got two right
Amsterdam - South End: A used condom in every yard and on the streets and sidewalks.

Mattapan - Port Au Prince: Extreme poverty crammed into a section of a capital city.

Hint for Chinatown: I could have also used Haymarket Square, but that's such a small section it shouldn't be included.

And two of your guesses need to be flipped. :D

I haven't been to any of the foreign cities mentioned so I'm relying on (most likely) stereotypes, or exaggerations.

9. Southie wasn't Dublin?
Man that was one I was sure of with the Irish-Catholic makeup. Damn, that's one I thought I nailed.

10. That would be too easy
That is one of the flips though.

I'm hoping my thread goes well, but if it dies, I'll just go ahead and link them and why.

14. The answers
1-B
2-F
3-A
4-C
5-D
6-A
7-E

Why:

1: Dog shit everywhere. No one cleans up after their dogs, and walking through there is like walking through a land mine field.

2. Dead cats everywhere. I can't seem to travel more than two blocks without encountering a freshly killed (usually, via car) cat.

3. Drug use and prostitution is done openly, and pretty much never prosecuted.

4. Trash - especially rotting food trash - piles up without being removed.

5. Extreme poverty crammed into a section of a capital city.

6. Used condoms in every yard, and on the streets and sidewalks.

7. Hey, our townie lifestyle on our crappy piece of land that no one wanted to live on 15-20 years ago is now worth anywhere 0.5-1 million dollars.

17. I misjudged how to play this thread
or how it would be received.

:(

I should have gave the answers in the Op instead of making it a interactive game.

Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 10:09 PM by yellowdogintexas
1. Southie E. Dublin
2. Roxbury D. Port Au Prince
3. Dorchester C. Venice
4. Chinatown F. Beijing
5. Mattapan A. Amsterdam
6. South End B. Paris
7. Charlestown E. Dublin

OK I tried this thing. Let's seee how it comes out
edited to add I only got one.

I was trying to relate it to the ethnicity of the sections. See I KNOW Southie and Charlestown are IRISH.

and I seriously thought there was a typo on 6 and it was supposed to be North End thus Venice. Silly me,
this was a Sniffa post, I shoulda known better.
