"America's Next Top Model" Praised By Gay Rights Group
The producers of "America's Next Top Model" have been praised by the president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for including a transgender contestant in the new series.

The hit reality show, created by former supermodel Tyra Banks, will enter its 11th season next month and will include former receptionist Isis, who describes herself as "a woman born physically male."

The 22-year-old is one of the 14 contestants vying for the grand prize of a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics, a management deal with Elite Model Management, and a spread in Seventeen magazine.

GLAAD chief Neil Giuliano is proud of the move: "(This is) an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television.

"We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible."

The new season of "America's Next Top Model" will debut on September 3.

I'm glad to see that ANTM is open to all people but knowing this group, they won't have a transgender model win the contest - no way 'Seventeen' magazine will allow a transgender to have the cover of their magazine (the winner gets a cover). I think this is one of the reasons Kim from season #5 got the boot even though she was kicking ass throughout the competition. (Kim wasn't the first lesbiam on the show but she was definately one of the top rated models of the season)

2. well if it means anything - Kim did alot better after ANTM than whomever actually won that season

Kim has been hired by MTV and does work for them; I can't even remember who won that season. I think ultimately 'Seventeen Magazine' has a bit of say in the ultimate winner and usually the people who don't win tend to be more successful than the ultimate winners. Unless Isis totally sucks it up the first few photo shoots they'll keep her around for the season but will find reasons to dislike her towards the end.

In season #9 they had this great model that won all the contests and the "Cover Girl Model of the Week each week". Heather (the girl I'm talking about) has Asperger's Syndrome and I think ultimately they didn't want her to be the representative. She really did have problems with speaking and that wouldn't play well with their "My Life as a Model" commericials they do each year so they started to find excuses to unload her too. But really, Heather was way better than whomever won that season which again, the name was not memorable.

3. I hardly ever agree with who wins. Heather was the best. She
had a unique look and took the best photos.
