Some boy tried to pick up on me at the airport yesterday.

And I do mean boy- honestly I suspect he was not-quite-legal. (Picture p1 with short hair and no tattoos. Then dial back a year or two.)

He came up and asked me something about my phone, and then why I was in town. I mentioned I was protesting this weekend and he asked if I was at The Call too. I had no idea what that was, and he explained that it was some rally to "save our country from abortion and the gays." No, I explained, I was there for an animal rights conference. Oddly this didn't chase him off, since obviously my politics are a complete 180 of his.

So he kept talking (I was giving him the look, but our flight was delayed and he seemed to want an excuse to be away from his family- if they raised him with this shit I can't blame him) and it turns out he's a creationist and believes all that bible-as-history crap, so I spent the remaining time until the flight boarded explaining that there's absolutely no archeological evidence of the Exodus story, and that the pyramids were built by Egyptian craftspeople (Oh, that whole tomb curse thing? He's not sure if it's cave mold or demons. Maybe demons in the cave mold. I was about ready to breathe in a lungful myself after hearing somebody say that perfectly earnestly.) not sweaty Hebrew extras from a Cecil B. DeMille movie, that humans and dinosaurs didn't coexist, etc.

How sad. This poor kid (in addition to being a bit ambitious with the ladies) seemed like he was pretty smart and eager to learn, it's a damn shame somebody's filled his head with shit instead of actual history and science. Maybe he'll go to real college and catch a clue, or at least look up some of the stuff we were talking about and start to read some non-fundie sources.
