1. My wife is starting to feel the same way, too
Only thing is, her darker prophecies have a nasty habit of coming true. So I keep telling her, "Can't you predict some good news for a change? Because that way it'll come true!" But she tells me she calls 'em like she sees 'em.

All I can say is that the Obama team needs to step up its game.

2. Me, too
I keep trying to shake it, and I keep trying to be hopeful, but I know how good they are at stealing elections, and I see signs everywhere that they can do it again (in Pennsylvania, for sure), and I am working overtime every day to keep hope alive.

But, in my heart of hearts, I am certain that Obama is going to get snaked. And then, of course, our collective snaking will just continue.................

3. It's the PMS
I've got it too, and I feel incredibly depressed right now. But ultimately I have to believe that we're on the way toward a brighter future.

Otherwise,

20. I keep getting emails to write to Senselessbrenner about issues
and I just laugh because the only thing that happens when you write to him is that you get on his mailing list and, ugh, who wants to see his face on your mail? I hate to say it but it's pointless to waste any time or effort to try to get that nitwit to vote for anything I'm in favor of because it will be a cold day in hell before he ever does. Guy's a schmuck.

14. Impossible! McCain can NEVER win this election... Not legally that is.
Poll numbers be damned. Polls are more or less meaningless. They only take a small sampling of people. Sure, they do it a lot, but still...

McCain can't win this election. Not fairly, not legally. He'd have to steal it to win it, and there's no way in HELL the Repukes are getting away with another one. Not this time! Obama will win, the Dems will take control of both houses of Congress, and we'll finally end this long nightmare and get back on the right track!

17. I feel the same way right now. But I'm told our reason for optimism is the Electoral College.
Some pundits think Obama's got it locked up. It's only in the national polls that there's a dead heat.

Think of that.

21. I doubt it is PMS
Because I feel the same way and I am a man.

What is wrong with people is the massive misinformation campaign waged by the corporate media for the last twenty+ years. It has become more consolidated and more refined over time until it is extremely effective. We have no chance in this election.

Rather than send money to the various campaigns we should be pooling our resources to start a new cable News Network, one that actually is fair and balanced.

22. HA! Fuck it. So be it.
I frankly don't mind if McCain is the one sitting in the coop when the chickens come home to roost, and believe me, they will. I actually laugh out loud at the thought of the mainstream media trying to cover up Bush's catastrophes for another four years. They're looking a little bit weary as it is.

I still insist that the Republicans are desperately trying to throw this election, so that they can blame everything on the Democrats. Our worthless media is only trying to make it seem close because no one will listen to them otherwise.

29. Just based on an overwhelming feeling of doom
(which is why I'm hoping it's just PMS). The new polls aren't encouraging but after the last 2 presidential elections I've come to be very suspicious of whether polls mean diddly squat. Really, I should feel very optimistic based on the very unscientific "bumper sticker" criteria -- which is to say that I'm seeing tons of Obama bumper stickers and have only seen 1 McCain. And I live in a very red part of my blue state.

30. I suppose that comes from recent history of pres. elections -
but we did win the 2006 Congressional races, so I think we have plenty of reason to be positive. We have a lot of dough and a charismatic, articulate candidate.

Considering the Reps seem to be on the ropes in light of the past 8 years, I would try to imagine us winning!

34. Me too.....
I live in red state hell though. But I have noticed that some folks who were more favorably disposed to Obama earlier this year no longer look on him so positively. I've yet to see an Obama bumper sticker or yard sign. And Obama did not run any tv ads here during the primaries where he trailed miserably and didn't even come in a close second. This state will go red again in November.

Be sure to read the section on Discouraged Democrats.

From the Daily Kos:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/21/131159/667/702/571887

I was talking with my mom last week about the presidential campaign. Both my parents are very active in local politics, and back in the 70s, they ended up on the local Democratic Committee and went to Jimmy Carter's inauguration.

She was originally undecided between Obama and Hillary, but was leaning towards Hillary. She started to come around to Obama when she saw the multitudes of faces of all colors beaming with pride and hope in campaign photos of Obama. My mom has watched as I printed out pro-Obama and anti-McCain articles, and watched I started volunteering for the Obama campaign.

But last week, as I was gushing about Obama (and looking for some shared enthusiasm), she said "I don't think he's going to win, honey. I wish he would, but I don't think he's going to win." She commented on my campaign work and said she would hate to see me disappointed. It was then I said to her, "Are you afraid to hope?" And she gave it a thought, and said in a very honest voice, "Maybe I am."

Again, I'd recommend reading the whole posting, and I'd note that if we let our depressed feelings dictate everything, most of us wouldn't get out of bed in the morning. And really, we're not called upon to declare unilaterally what the future will be (because we don't know), but we are called upon to do the right thing. That tends to simplify things...

40. at the primaries my mom was excited to vote for Obama
and I've noticed a shift in her behavior. She's been getting a lot of anti-Obama crap from her cronies (the same lovely people who are now sending me hate emails, calling me racist names and telling me to get back to the ghetto but I digress) and I think it's starting to influence her because lately she's been saying that she's not decided, that there are things about both candidates that she doesn't like. I'm afraid that all this ugliness is having the desired effect. Sure it's disgusting to us but there are a lot of people (including my elderly mom) who are naive and believe awful things when they're repeated often enough. The right wing poo throwing is working to some degree. It makes me sick, it DOES make me not want to get out of bed in the morning. I'm not sure my psyche can handle another blow like the last 2 elections. I'm not exactly joking here, I've about run out of faith in humanity and I don't know how much more disappointment I can handle.

42. It sounds as though you need some support.
And it sounds as though you're facing an onslaught by jerks.

What would it take for you to get the support you need? What would it take for your current suffering to stop?

And I know what you mean about people taking for granted things that are repeated often enough.

However, all you can do is take care of that portion of today you control, and of course your own psyche. It's not your job to hold yourself hostage to dread.
