I work in social services, and a woman in my caseload has expressed dismay at her inability to use her CNA training to get a job. She has an arrest record that disqualifies her. Her last arrest was a decade ago, and she's a more mature person now.
I understand the need for screening out people with criminal records in the health care field, but does anyone know of any related jobs that she could do in which her record won't disqualify her?

It's possible to have one's criminal record expunged. The requirements vary by state, so she should call a lawyer and ask if it's a feasible option.

2. It depends on what she was arrested for |

If it was drug or alcohol related, sometimes she can clear her license/record by agreeing to enter a monitoring program. If it was a violent crime, I simply don't know what she could do.

3. Can't give that information |
|
Even though I'm being anonymous about this, I don't want to say too much. Confidentiality is a big deal here.
But apparently her offenses are enough to keep her from working, so it's a real problem.

4. BlueDog is right. A criminal defense attorney can fix this. |

5. Nursing homes aren't that picky. |
|
Most of the staff aren't nurses, but CNAs or MAs.

7. Have her get on the CMS site and find one that has a lot of |
|
violations. They're a lot less picky.

Good idea. I worry that she'd work for them and her paycheck would bounce.
