What is your experience with bars?
I do not like bars. I guess for a lot of people bars are a hook-up place. I've never hooked up with anything other than an alcoholic beverage in a bar. Some of the places I've been to remind me a lot of high school because of popularity contests and stuff like that. Other's merely reminded me that, no, I'm not built like a brick shit-house.

1. i actually met both of my husbands in bars.
the first was understandable. i lived in one of those blue collar towns where there were 3 things to do- drive up and down the main drag, go to the movies, usually the drive-in, and go to the bars.
the second was a coincidence. i have moved to the city, looking for fun and culture, but my car was dead. so, i had visited a few of the walkable bars. but i rented a little truck to pick up the last of my stuff from back home, and stopped at durty dick's irish saloon on the way home. the rest is history.

i do have a couple of taverns where i am now a member of the family. but mostly they are more brewpub kind of things.

i suggest you try tipping better if you can afford it. there is one place where money buys love, and that is a tavern.

3. It's Ok
bars mean certain things to certain people. Back in the day, I used to go to bars and do whatever. Now if I go to bars, it is mainly to just drink beer and call it a day. But I am not a young person anymore. so there it is. If I hooked up with someone, I would hope that the lighting was DARK ok? I do have some great memories of bars and the resultant hookups, but who cares.

I don't think I would take that chance again though.

7. My mom always told me that I'll never meet a nice girl at a bar
I don't buy that. I know a lot of really cool women and all of them come to the bar with me... so I assume there's other cool girls there too.

5. Most "bars" I've been to are like peacock shows.
Guys and gals throwing up their faux best. Do hair extensions and spandex trump fake boobs and lightweight drinker? Does an eBay Rolex and an entry level BMW 3 series trump biceps, abs and good teeth?

Way too stupid for me. No thanks.

I've been to clubs I've liked for drinking, dancing and fun. Never been to a bar to "hook up", ever. Never would.

I'd love to have a good neighborhood bar, though. You know, the Cheers variety.

9. I really can't pick up women in bars.
I'm half decent enough looking that I could if I were aggressive and outgoing with women but I'm not. I spend time in bars with friends and often enjoy myself.

Had to give 'em up when I quit every drug in the universe, though.

Incidentally, my pool game has suffered irreparably...lol.

14. I don't mind bars.
Depends on the color and style, though.

I do not like bars on windows.

Nothing says I live in a bad neighborhood quite like bars on a window.

But I don't think they look too bad on doors.

16. Butterfingers, Fifth Avenue are the best.
*rim shot* But if you're talking about a place to have a few drinks and meet others, not so much. Going with a group of friends to relax or watch a big game together is cool. However going by myself to a bar is the worst thing I could possibly do. Nothing lonelier than being alone in a crowd and all that.

18. I used to hang out in bars in my early 20s then I sort of outgrew
the environment.

Now I jsut get disgusted by people acting like assholes most of the time

I agree on the popularity point too - it is quite intimidating to be the "new kid" in a bar. :pals:

19. I have rarely made new friends at a bar.
Usually, everyone there is already coupled up... and while I'd be happy to join a group if asked, I'm never asked.

20. I met my husband in a bar. We've been happily married for 11 years.
There are bars and there are bars. They run the gamut from the little neighborhood joint with a jukebox, a pool table, and a couple of dart boards to the meat-market pick-up joint nightclubs. And there's a lot in between too.

Some bars I like, some bars I don't.

21. I don't go to bars very often lately, but I enjoy going out with friends on occassion
especially if there's a good band playing. I always considered bars a party place more than a hook-up place.

I enjoy a nearby pool hall, but I don't consider that a bar. Probably because I've never been there on a weekend evening.

28. Used to go on Friday nights.
Even though I was a light drinker. I'd meet someone now and then. I guess it was enough to keep me returning. Eventually, I grew tired of the company of drunks and being pursued by women giving off loopy vibes. Finally, I realized I'd grown smoke intolerant and quit all together. Thus, ended my bar career.

30. I slummed it a bit this weekend
Aside from the woman who wanted to pay me a silver dollar to take some sips of my vodka and tonic because she'd missed last call, and then squirted a syringe of saline solution on me, here are some nice quotes I overheard:

"I didn't know whether to fuck her or cut her back for bacon"

"Her boyfriend was one of those sorta-gay metro homophobes"

31. Hate 'em. I was driven away by endless Generic Clapton songs on the jukebox.
The muscleheaded clowns at most sports bars don't help either.

But mostly, if I'm going to drink I want to do it at home, where I don't have to drive anywhere, and most importantly I can listen to music I actually like.

33. Sounds like us
The wife and I. The sports bars have the best food but we usually get it to go so we too don't have to listen to, "WOOOH! WOOOH!" (like a dog barking), "YEAH! MUTHA-FUCKA! YEAH!", "THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' 'BOUT BITCH!"
