He was sworn into office in the hospital room where his one son was admitted. He almost was going to resign but the dems asked him to give it 6 months. Knowing that he was both mother & father to the boys that survived (he also lost a daughter), he decided to not move to DC but commute each day to work via Amtrak.

36 years later the guy still commutes to DC on Amtrak along with Carper and Castle.
