Is there really true love? That flutter heart feeling love? |
|
I have been married almost 19 years and I seriously doubt that it exists. I don't even remember it in the beginning.

I finally met someone that sparks my interest, but he lives over 1300 miles away. Wish me luck, I ain't moving to Nebraska, just no-no-no! I guess we will just wait and see...he will probably hate how much of a beer-swilling slob I am and that will be IT!!
By the way, that's not suffering! It's a total blast!! Enjoy, hunny!

Oh, I just suffer because I love like it's going out of style. I have so much emotion in my little body, sometimes it overwhelms me. :)
But I am happy for YOU! Keep me posted on how it goes! And no to Nebraska! Make him come to CT! :D

It is not a feeling that you get when you are in love...
... it is a feeling you only get when you are loved deeply, and passionately.

It is a relationship I was in, which somehow never came to fruition, but also never ended.
It is a story that spans 30 years.
It is a story that has become legend in my extended family.

I've had that experience over the years, but still nothing seemed to stick due to my intransigent ways. Now I am getting a little older, and am not really expecting that kind of thing to happen (ah--lowered expectations!).
I pretty much visualized me and my brother sitting on the front porch knitting in our golden years. Probably will be that! Oh well. Hope you do get at least one grand romance, hunny! Most of mine seemed grand, but were probably more like sordid. It's all fun.
One of these days, you will be blindsided, I hope. In the meantime, go for younger guys that may not have their shit together, but will be a bit of fun while you wait...

Some people make your heart go pitty pat, but I argue that this is not love. My wife and I have had this conversation a few times. I believe that Hollywood has done a disservice to young lovers by making them believe that the pitty-pat person is your soul mate. That's total rubbish. The pitty pat is like a hot stock tip. It's OK to get excited, but don't invest without further research.
To tell the truth, I don't remember ever having that feeling about my wife. I'm still crazy about her after 25 years of marriage, but we kind of grew into each other in the early days. By the time it blossomed into love, the heart-flutter window had passed.
Lots of girls made my heart race, and I can't imagine any would have been as good a choice as my wife.
Never make the mistake of thinking that love isn't real if you don't feel like they do in the movies.

But a lot of it is a person idealizing. Then reality (realty?) sets in. I have never been in a relationship that lasted as long as yours, but please don't be disallusioned. You probably have a lot of other benefits that those that go from relationship to relationship don't have.
Life seems to be a series of trade-offs anyways. You give up a certain amount of fun to keep a steady job, etc. I have been somewhat of a perpetual adolescent as regards to marriage and family (skipped that part--no hubby, no kids--am 47 and got away with it). So I am looking at things from the other side of the fence. I sometimes regret that I never had kids, but realize that maybe that is not what I was supposed to be doing. Too late now, so no sense in regretting it.
I don't know (not being qualified to give advice), but maybe you need to try something new--even a nice vacation in a different place might perk things up? A break from the routine, maybe?
In my view, romance is fleeting. But you can always make that effort to bring it back for what it's worth. Good luck and best wishes. I hope that you can recapture some excitement!

22. yes it exists. can it last is the question. i was once struck like a lightening |
|
bolt. love at first sight. or rather, in love after a business phone call about desks and filing cabinets. other people in the room saw it, too. saw us both melt. another phone call that i made to check something for him revealed it as well. it fell apart after a few weeks. it scared the crap out of him. partly because i had a little kid, i think, something he was not ready for. it took me 3 years to let go. couldn't figure out what the hell he was thinking. kept trying to find a way to keep him in my life on his terms. he kept trying to just break it. i just couldn't give up until he came out and told me to go away.
when i met my hubby of 25 years, he was the one who was struck. i was just happy to find someone who didn't run the other way. it took a long time for my feelings for him to grow to something that could compete with that lightening bolt. but they never did match that electricity. they are something very different.

It's rare that two people feel it for each other at the same time.
I was struck by lightening nearly 4 years ago and I'm still not the same. I saw him this past weekend and it's still there for me. His life has been complicated and I doubt he'll ever feel the same about me. But he will always make my knees weak when I think about him and I wouldn't give that up for anything. Reminds me I'm still alive...

Lust fades for most I'm afraid. Love is more enduring and doesn't feel the same for everyone. It doesn't mean that a lack of that kind of longing makes your love any less profound or meaningful.
