(whats left of the) Grateful Dead to tour for Obama!
DENVER — Grateful Dead Back Together for Obama (the tour part has been rumored for months)

Grateful Dead Back Together for Obama

Barack Obama’s run for the presidency has launched many different grassroots campaigns. The most interesting may be the revival of the Grateful Dead.

I am told that on Oct. 13, possibly either in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, the Dead will get back together for at least one show to raise money for and awareness about Obama.

All four living original members will play together — Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzmann. The band's leader, Jerry Garcia, died in 1995 from a heart attack.

Substituting for Garcia will be Allman Brothers and Gov't Mule master musician Warren Haynes.

If all goes well, my sources say, the band will then set out on a major tour in summer 2009

1. Without Garcia, it's just not the same ... not really the Dead.
It's just not. Discuss.

2. I'm still very bothered by the way Vince Welnick was treated by Weir and the others.
Bob Weir wishes he could be a quarter of the musician Vince Welnick was.

4. I liked Vince too

Great on the keys, and handled the high harmonies well.

I enjoyed Bobbies cowboy songs with the Dead - never could get into RatDog though.

6. You know Vince was really to blame....
He tried to off himself on the RatDog tour bus. I gotta ask you, would you want someone like that around you on tour? Probably not.

Vince kind of became my friend through SCI and I got to know him a little. He was one very depressed dude. That is whay his former Tubes mates reunited and wanted nothing to do with him either.

It was a tragic thing, but to lay it on someones feet other than Vince's is wrong.

5. Good to see Kreutzmann back in the game...
...I've been listening to a LOT of "Mickey's On Hiatus" Dead lately...Skull & Roses, Three From The Vault, and the Wolfgang's Vault shows.

I also enjoy the "Limited Edition" version of "There and Back Again," featuring Haynes...for the uninitiated, the "limited" part was a second CD with live performances of Passenger, St. Stephen, Dark Star, and The Eleven...
