Nobody in Houston seems to be getting ready for a possible hurricane. |
|
I was out and about today and everybody is very calm.
This was not like a few years ago when everyone was trying to get out of Houston at one time.
About the only hurricane related item being bought was water.
A lot of people have stuff from the last tropical storm.
I know a lot of people who are staying.
I have all my stuff, just in case.
It might get crazy on Sunday or Monday.
A lot of people I talked to didn't even know a hurricane was coming into the Gulf of Mexico.
Crazy.

1. Calm, but nervous inside because today 3-years ago ... |

Hurricane Katrina hit. We discussed H.Gustav at work, but all the news is focused on New Orleans so we weren't concerned. That was misleading with H.Katrina, too. The last thing I'd buy is water. Learned to save jugs, coolers, etc. for drinking water, and fill the bathtub for everything else cause you'll need it. The Friday before T.S.Eduoard, daughter found a snake in the house and then a vulture (Texas=buzzard) in the front yard -- and we live in a very populated area, Houston suburbia! Last night, Jack the cat attacked a snake on the front porch -- aaaaahhh, it is the dreaded Texas Coral Snake, now trapped in a coffee can because even the paid pest control service won't come get it. The animals get weird before big storms.

We were the only one's buying plywood.
Tomorrow we will be busy cutting it for my friends windows, just in case.
This is monster hurricane, and if this one goes east there will be more to come.
Everyone we met and talked to only seemed to be concerned about Labor Day.
There is no need to go crazy like last time but a little concern might be good.

3. Wait until it hits the Gulf. |
|
Then they'll have a better idea where it's going. With mandatory evacuation tomorrow in NO, there will be a lot of people headed to Texas. I don't want it to make landfall ANYWHERE!
Stay safe!

5. I have some friends from NO coming tomorrow. |
|
Even if Houston gets a hit we will still be safer then NO.
I wish we could make this hurricane go away.
I love my old tough house more and more.
You know what is scary, we have now 3 or 4 story townhouses which have lots of glass.
I hope the windows hold.
