Robert Downey Jr. was some sort of acting god, as usual.

as for the controversial line in the movie, in anticipation, i was prepared to cringe, but it was the funniest line in the movie. frankly a movie where an actor performs in blackface is not one i expect to be able to sit through, but just like with the other controversial issue in this movie, this issue is given a context and explanation that pretty much put the joke on the actors themselves rather than any group.

this movie was the antidote to Vietnam flicks with 60's music soundtracks, the Klumps, movie executives and the things actors will do for Oscars.

anyway, i checked what Roger Ebert said and he gave it 3.5/4.0 stars and the SF Chronicle gave it the highest review. so i guess i'm not alone. i had my doubts beforehand, after Zoolander, who wouldn't?

i guess it was clever and similar to Bowfinger in the way it satirizes Hollywood film.
