I don't know why (just received an email telling me not to email him at work any more!), but he has been unhappy working there for a while because it's a sweatshop and the employees are treated as disposable. The thing is, he's been looking for another job for a year with no luck. I won't go into the rest of his personal situation but this really fucking sucks.

Maine is a pretty place to live for part of the year, but you'd better like serving up fast food if you want to stay. :grr:

1. When we were visiting relatives in Maine, they were telling us
that almost everybody has two or three different skill sets/job skills in order to survive.

It sure is beautiful, though.

Hope your friend finds work.

2. They "survive" and if you were in northern Maine, you got a glimpse
of the standard of living. Mainers have to ask themselves, at what point does the tradeoff become untenable? And when does a "rich inner life" become a "life dulled by boredom and hardship"?

He may have to move, although just earlier this week he wrote how he doesn't want to have to leave his girlfriend. :(

3. I'm curious, is there a market in Maine for a skilled tradesman?
What sort of skills are desired?

4. Hence, why we left Maine
After a year-and-a-half, I still couldn't find full-time work in my field, which made that $600/mo oil bill a bit much to take.

5. Outside of Portland, it's an employment wasteland.
Jobs o' plenty here though.
