who remembers their first acid trip...?
A thread in honor of UnderTheOcean's loss of innocence.

1970 or thereabouts, did half of a four-way windowpane with some friends at a high school basket ball game and the dance afterward. First discovered I was getting off when the basket ball-- and then the players-- began to produce tracers. It was a totally insane night from that point forward-- at one point I had a conversation with a friend's father while I watched tunnels forming under the floor, running around like gophers. It was an awesome first experience.

12. microdots were LSD
Dosage amount of mescaline is 300+ milligrams, not micrograms. Synesthesia can happen with all psychoactive substances.

56. Mescaline, not likely! In fact most of what was called "Mescaline"...

in the late 1960s and 1970s was a combination of LSD and PCP! A mixture of a gram of LSD(usually of relatively poor appearance or quality) and an ounce of PCP. This made 10K "hits". This combo would be tabbed into a larger tablet than LSD was and was often colored brown.

At the time this combo was an incredibly profitable business in the SF Bay Area, where most of the early PCP (and LSD) was produced and distributed around the world.

Believe it or not!

30. I saw music fly of the strings of what has to be the worlds best guitar player
sitting around in a group of other people tripping, I was floored by this guitar player.

Later I asked my friend, because I didn't really trust my memories, "was that guy like, really really good". Turns out he was a pretty damn good player.

lol, I had to ask her about a lot of things, and most everything I asked about had an element of reality to it.

I really don't see why people waste their money on trips to Disneyland.

19. It probably wouldn't be a good experience for you
these days, anyways. I think it is something that should be tried when a person has no responsibilities and worries. If you didn't catch it in high school, then it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try it now, unless you are in a good place and with laid back people!

10. I was pretty heavily into anything hallucinogenic...
...throughout college. During my last year of undergrad and all during post-grad I pretty much tripped all day, every day. Acid, mescaline, and shrooms were my weapons of choice but, to be honest, I would pretty much take anything going. I was not what you might call...sensible.

The strange thing was, the brain has an amazing ability to adjust, so that, after a while, I could function quite "normally" at school and work, no matter how fucked up I was. People would occasionally comment on my somewhat surreal sense of humor or look quizzically at some slightly off-the-wall comment I made, but nobody suspected there was a three-ringed circus going on in my head. Twenty years later, I still have the same sense of humor and well-developed talent for saying bizarre things, so it's quite possible I never came down.

13. That is similar to my experience!
Did half of a 4-way Windowpane in 1977 or thereabouts. Smoked an ounce of weed with about 6 people, drank a couple of beers and went to a high school dance. I thought this shit was gonna be permanent, was seeing colors until noon the next day!

I saw this guy's disco shirt floating around the room. One of my friends flipped out and got kicked out of the dance. Another friend's house had just burned down that day, so she was walking around saying weird shit like "Eat my burnt house" and such.

The dances used to be held in a rec center above the police station, so back then, we really had to keep our shit together!

I could never do that stuff nowadays. Guess I'm getting old--I would not be able to deal with that kind of buzz (I can't even stand smoking pot anymore)!! --But I still drink beer like there's going to be a prohibition soon....

That was a great idea for a thread, by the way--haven't thought about that in ages!!

I remember the date because it was my mother's birthday. It was at a school dance for me too.

The stuff was not extra strong so the experience was really enjoyable and not overwhelming either.

After that I had tons of very heavy trips but the best ones were with Mushrooms. The last time was in

'93.I don't think I could handle it today.Aaah,those were the daze. :)

BTW,I'm French-Canadian so I have no idea what a windowpane is.Can somebody describe me what it

is? The odds that I tried that are pretty high but I need to be sure.

27. My First Trip: NYE 68-69 Grateful Dead!
My first time at Winerland:NYE 68-69

During the holidays my family and my cousin's family would swap years. One year at our house in Sac and one year in SF. I loved going to SF. They had the coolest house, in South SF. 4 floors with a basement. The basement had a pinball machine, a baseball machine (think old school with the little ramps)a shuffleboard table (full size) and a huge color TV (at the time that was something!) And my uncle had built a bar that had tons of pictures of naked women all over the walls. Whenever we visited, this was my room.

My cousin Skip was about 6 or 7 years older that I was, but we really got along great. He was the person that I first smoked weed with (when he came to our house the year before). He was so cool I thought. I would take the bus down to the city and he would take me to ball games and Playland and then see that I got on the bus and made it home.

He would take me to the Haight and we would hang out and check out the scene even years before. My parents, when we would go to 49er games at Kezar, would always talk about the "dirty Hippies" and drive through the Haight with the windows rolled up and the doors locked.

My parents left SF and went home but they let me stay at Skip's. We went down the Haight and hung out for while and went back to his house. He said "lets go to a thing tonight". No matter what it was I always agreed with Skip, so I was certainly up for it.

We went to an area of the city I had never been before and there were all the freaks from the Haight out front of the building. I thought the freaks were just limited to the Haight Street area but I realized that they were everywhere. On the marquee were three bands I ahd never heard of (keep in mind I was thirteen and lived the "Wonder Years" life)Stoneground, NRPS and the Grateful Dead.

Up until that time I had been to one concert in my life, the Hermans Hermits and the Who. I hated the Who (I got over it however). When I went to that concert everyone dressed up in their best clothes and were well behaved.

This was way different than that. The freaks were freaking. Playing drums, dancing to no music, smoking pot out in the open, playing frisbees, selling stuff etc. A complete 180 from the other concert I had been to.

We walked in and people were even freakier! They were painting stuff on the floor! There were no white lights, everything was blacklights! No seats except in the balcony and everyone was just milling around. me and Skip found some seats up in the balcony and smoked some weed (he told me Acapulco Gold) and waited for the show to start.

Someone passed around something to drink in paper cups. I think it was orange juice but my memory tells me Kool Aid. I took a drink and Skip said "Don't drink too much". I had no idea what he was talking about.

We went down to the floor and things began to get a little weird. Stoneground came on and they were something. Looking like all the rest of the freaks in the building. They had a bunch of chicks in the band which I thought was unusual. My mind was going about a billion miles an hour away from reality (or closer to it?).

Then the NRPS came on and they were COUNTRY? At the time I hated country music (my Dad loved it) but this was weird ass country. Songs about weed. Songs about freaks. I loved it.

Then The Dead came on. By this time I was gone. Totally gone. the music played through my mind and though my body. The beat was me and I was the beat. Complete weirdness. I really remember nothing about the show itself other than the feeling that I was on to something. Something that was so much larger than anything I could possibly learn in the world that I knew up to the point. Certainly much larger than what was going on in school. Everything became crystal clear and diffuse all at the same time.

My Mom, to this day, says "you were always different after you spent that weekend with Skip". Little does she know.

Skip and I did a lot of stuff together for a couple of years and then he went off to college after attending SF State (his parents wanted to get him away from the riots and political atmosphere there).

Skip died on the GD tour in 72 in Sweden(?). He was leaving a show, looked for cars one way but did not realize that they drive on the other side of the road there and got hit by a car. Sad shit. My parents would not let me go to his funeral (at Glide Memorial) and that, to this day, really burns my ass. I loved Skip and he taught me more than anyone had.

That I did not come to the funeral (Which my parents described in detail about the spectacle and the "Dirty Hippies")caused a huge rift between them and my Aunt and Uncle. I never saw either one of them again. My Father can hold a grudge. He did go to my Aunt's funeral but never saw her or spoke to her since 1972. He had another sister he did not talk to since 1954.

34. orange sunshine, yes that orange sunshine
A friends older brother gave it to me at a local concert, Loading Zone, HP Lovecraft, give you an idea how long ago it was. I
took half and nothing happened after 1/2 hour. I took the other half. vid hallucinations for about 8 hours. noticed it about 20minutes later when my shadow started dancing while I was walking home. Cars on the overpass started looking like rocket ships. lots of colorful stuff floating around me. Great stuff happening in my bedroom all night. I had a great time but felt strange for a couple of days.

Best acid I ever had was stolen from Stanford Research Institute in the late 70's, very powerful.

last time I dropped acid was around 1981 with my best friend. not very hallucinogenic but fun. haven't wanted to do it since, even with my friend who still had some of Owsley's stuff.

42. Yeah, late 80s, maybe 1987
I had only half a hit of blotter as I was wary of taking anything. It just made me feel really good the whole day. But, we had fun driving around Houston, visiting various members of the "underground" culture as my friend that gave me the half-hit was friends with most of them. I can't remember any of the names of the people or places we went to, but it was still memorable just for the experience.

I only had six more full hits of blotter acid over the next seven years, because it was always important that the setting be just right, or semi-controllable. I stopped about the time I started working for businesses that did random drug testing (or said they did and then never did so...)

They were fun times, but I don't miss it :)

47. I do...in 1992
I was working at Sears at the time, and a co-worker sold me two hits. I took both of them that night and I think my Mom knew something was up because I couldn't-stop-scrubbing the kitchen counter with the chore boy.....it just wasn't clean enough for me. We used to sit at the kitchen table ( this was when we were living at my grandmothers house ) and smoke and have some beer. This night, I poured myself a glass of cranberry juice ( which I was convinced it was wine ) while my Mom grilled me for about a half an hour as to why my eyes looked so funny...I just said I had a really long and stressful day at work, which wasn't far from the truth.

Afterwords, I excused myself to go into the living room to watch TV, and Bob Dole was speaking on CNN ( I forget what he was talking about ) but there was an orange haze around him that I found odd, as well as the little multicolored worms that were moving across the screen as he spoke.....

What a blast that was....I can't even get into what the rest of the night was like

Asked to describe that first time I said "I felt like broken glass, but in a good way" There were many many more, all very pleasant, excursions to follow until September 1982 when I saw Friday the 13th part e, in 3D, in Roxbury where we smoked and drank in the theater and then attended the Grateful Dead show at Boston Garden and then I walked barefoot five miles in the pitch black, past Cranberry Bogs, from Plymouth Centre where the bus from Boston dropped you off to the house I was sharing out by Myles Standish State Forest......

I have never done it, and never will.

51. I do.
Blue something-or-other. Blue Dragon, maybe. Anyway, it was blue.

Back when I was in high school (late 70's), my cousin came home on leave from the Navy one day, handed it to me and said "Don't take it all and don't take it by yourself." So of course I took it all and took it by myself.

About an hour-and-a-half later my friends and I were playing Over The Line out on the grass field of the elementary school down at the end of my block. Everything was cool. I was watching one of my buds take some practice swings. One, two, three, then it happened. The bat seemed to slow down slightly, which was a good thing because it gave the 4000 other bats a chance to catch up. Be-fucking-yootiful!! As you might imagine, I kind of lost interest in playing the game. I went on a little sight-seeing adventure instead. I may have stared at a brick wall for an hour. I watched the wind flow through this giant tree, and I was smart enough to understand the meaning of the universe, but too stupid to be able to put it into words. I looked up at the sky and saw that it wasn't the sky at all, but a geodesic (sp?) dome painted to look like the sky, with moving pictures of clouds to add realism. Geodesic dome? Inverted triangles? Diamonds? Oh, now I get it!!! Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds!! Back out to that grass field and I was watching hundreds of dragon flies skittering here and there like they knew how. Then I could see their shadows under them in the noonday sun. I imagined lines drawn between the dragon flies and their shadows...and the lines became real. So they're going up and down and round and round like emancipated horses from a merry-go-every-which-way.

The rest of my day was basically more stuff like that...oh, and I think I may have smoked like four packs of cigarettes.

But I had a great time...

52. The first Lolapalooza Tour in Raliegh N.C. Good times.
For the next few years we ate acid like it was candy every chance we got. I was in the Army at the time and LSD had the advantage of NOT showing up on a urine test...

1987 went to see Pink Floyd with my best friend and boyfriend (who is now my husband) We took tabs and liquid. YIKES!

So fucking great-sat the whole time just taking it in.

One time, bought some acid from outside a dead show in NYC (sorry we hated the Dead) and the zit on my face looked like a volcano when I looked in the mirror--bad trip-----freaked me the fuck out.

57. I remember.
It's been a long time. If/when I do it again, I'll go with 'shrooms. And get away from the city. Get away from the cocoon. Spend 2 or 3 days camping and hiking with a laid back friend who I enjoy being with, and am comfortable being silent with too. Then try a couple pinches of shrooms.

From the beginning I've associated psychotropics with "religion"; or with the kind of care for the spirit, for the mind, that "religion" can connote in the best cases. I don't mean some "fundamentalist" tripe. I learned about religion and spirituality long before I came into any real contact with "fundamentalist" perversions. Some asshole in a helicopter sniping wolves, while preaching about God and God's will... In all my searches through religious writings, the writings having the most impact were those of the Chinese Buddhist tradition and others teaching an ideal of awakened quietude. These are the kind of thoughts, artistic influences, I'd want surrounding me if I did 'shrooms again.
