A little political subversion aimed at my STBE
So this morning meeting at my Soon to be Ex-wife's place to take care of some prep-business for filing for divorce she asked me about my thoughts on McCain/Palin.

I gave her the quick highlights - McCain's no maverick (that's how she opened the topic really saying he's not like the 'typical republican'), he's got the wrong agenda (listed off a couple of points on health care, since she has elderly parents and a child). She in particular seemed smitten with Palin, I hit the highlights here too: even in cases of rape she would not support a woman's right to decide the best way to deal with a pregnancy, she cut special ed funding, the hypocrisy/double standard applied to the issue of her daughter's pregnancy vs what would've happened had Obama had a daughter that age that became pregnant, the whole Alaska independence and Iraq is a mission from the gods thing.

It was a bit surprising that she brought this up because I was under the impression the fact that I cared about politics and Talked about it with people (gasp!) was one of her reasons for leaving. And I did think I saw the familiar "Don't trouble me with the facts." glaze when I contradicted the 'story' she's bought into as sold by the gop and mcain/palin campaign.

So knowing my son - on his own though I'm sure my attitude shaped it to a large extent given his age - said during the 2004 election on his own, for a class essay, said if he could vote he would vote for Kerry because of his biggest concerns were about the environment and that he did not want people to drill in ANWR (which I had told him about) and he thought Kerry would not drill and be better overall for the environment.

So made sure my son know Palin's record and Mccain and Palin's support of drilling including ANWR.

I did tell my STBE I talked to him and that he might bring this up with her :)

Maybe she'll listen to him or at least vote the way he would out of a desire to please him :)
