Rant....I'm trying to rescue this kitten...
It's at my parents' house. I've repeatedly talked to my little brother about giving it the Dawn soap/flea comb treatment (no soap in the eyes of course!)...He did it, and what does he do? He puts it back outdoors. Fucking idiot. As it already eats wet food, I told him to carpet the floor of the spare bathroom that nobody uses with light colored towels, repeat the treatment, put the kitten in there, and give him/her a litter box, food and water, so I can get ready to come out there and rescue the wee one. He tells me that's too much work.

Arrrrgh! I'm worried enough about anemia and other outdoor-borne diseases. Wtf? So I'm trying to reach him and my Ex tonight to deal with this ASAP, so I can talk to my landlord and make a Vet appt for Saturday morning and get this done. Nobody's answering phones or email. If I didn't have school/work all week, I'd already be there.

:banghead:

3. I want that kitten.
If I were on the other coast I'd go take care of the little bugger until it was cleared for the move to Qz.

4. He/She is the friendliest little thing I've ever seen...
It's an outdoor born kitteh, but when you go outside and start talking, the baby comes running and wants nothing but love. I'm so frustrated about this. I just want him/her to be safe and in a good home (mine). I'm very worried about anemia from the fleas, and I want to get the kitten here (if cleared, of course) as soon as possible.

Sigh...I should have just taken it when I was there earlier this week, landlord be damned. Grrrrr.

6. I've changed my mind, I'm going out there Weds. morning
One of my classes is already canceled, I'm going to tell the other Prof that I can't attend, and I'm making a Vet Appt out there first thing tomorrow morning. I will leave a letter for my landlord in the morning.

Then, I will head out Weds. morning, get the baby, go to the Vet, and hope for the best. If he/she is cleared to be around our other cat, I will ask for some wormer to administer once home (don't want to worm a kitten before a 100 mile drive!), and get the baby home. I will also make an appt. with our Vet for the following morning for shots, if he/she doesn't get them at the initial visit.

I can't wait until Saturday to save the kitty. It stole my heart a week ago, and I can't let it down.

:)

9. The baby needs a chance...
Our bigger baby is also a rescue from my parents' house...And he's the biggest, healthiest boy. Although, he was an indoor, so no fleas, just ear mites and worms, when we brought him home.

I'm willing to do what it takes to get this little monster home and healthy. I can't say no to that face. And you should have seen how it faced down my Mom's Husky the other night... Hisssssss!

A little spitfire, this one. It belongs here, I can feel it.

Hope you get her and the landlord doesn't have any problem with have her.

I'm on a major kitty addiction at the moment. I already brought home two rescue babies and want another but the hubband says that's enough. He's right, but still! I want!

Prolly coz I talked him into this dog, too. LOL

13. no dawn, kitties have very sensitive skin.
The best thing for the fleas is to get the vet to give her a dose of capstar. It's not a long-term thing (you'll need to use whatever anti-flea med you use for PB after that) but it will kill any fleas off within a few hours.

15. I was given that advice by several people, as a non-trad flea treatment option
for kittens...And PB doesn't get flea treatments, we're on the 5th floor in the city, and he's never been outside, other than in a carrier going to the vet.

What is Capstar?

16. It's a pill that kills off any fleas.
Works like a charm and it's very fast.

You can also do a flea bath made for cats, combined with the flea combing, but you might have to repeat that, and giving a pill is much easier on all involved.

Dishwashing liquid is not meant for kittens or puppies either.

But rescuing is a very good thing. Take the baby to the vet.

18. UPDATE: The kitten is not doing well, has to go to the Vet asap
x(

Something happened between last night and today. I'm going to call my brother back and tell him to take the baby in tonight. I'm not sure what's wrong, but it's not good. The other 4 died suddenly, and I'm not going to take a chance on this one.

Think good thoughts, please.

20. The emergency Vet said to bring it in only
if it starts "mouth breathing", aka in obvious distress. I told my brother that by that point, it's probably going to die, but he's listening to the Vet and will bring it in in the morning. I'm assuming that the little baby won't make it, since it won't get care right now, when he needs it. He's eating and drinking, but he's somewhat lethargic.

I'm beside myself, and beating myself up for not taking it when I had the chance. Goddamnit.

You're a good person doing the best you can. If he's still eating a drinking, he may be okay. Don't give up hoping!

22. I'm just angry that nobody's doing anything...
If I could drive the 100 miles right this second, I would scoop the baby up and get him to the Vet hospital immediately. It's all of 15 minutes from my parents' house, and I'm so frustrated. I would never wait until morning when I knew a baby was sick and weak from fleas, etc.

It's so unfair. x(

26. I feel it..
People can really be just too off-pissing, even those we love. I am like you. If I see something that CAN be done, I want to SEE it done and often I am the only person who sees any urgency or necessity. :scared: but helpless is horrible.

I missed your update last night. I went to bed thinking "good, there's a sweet kitteh and a determined woman with a plan" and, man, how quickly things can change. You must have had a very rough night and I hope that kitteh has made it through and gets to the vet. One's heart can be broken by one's good deeds, sadly. You have done everything in your power to do the best for that little one and your brother must be feeling pretty chagrined about now too. I am sending good wishes and praying now to any deity whose name pops into my head for the baby's survival. I'm sending good thoughts your way too because I know you are suffering as well.

23. Sorry to hear about your kitty.
Hope you're able to get it the help it needs in time.

Having been in wildlife rehab, I know how frustrating it is to have an animal that needs you, that you can't get at. :(
